does anyone know laptops very well? i'm goin to college this year and i have no idea which one to get. i'm looking foir something between 1000-1200 . any input would be greatly apreciated.

I bought a reconditioned Dell Inspiron 8100 about 3 and half years ago and it has been the most trouble free computer/laptop I've ever had. In the same time period I've went through 3 laptops at work and none were a Dell. I had a couple of problems with my Dell when I first bought it but Dell's customer service department was wonderful to deal with. I would highly recommend Dell products if you looking for a computer. Also, look into their reconditioned laptops. You may be able to find a better deal there.

When I start searching for another computer I'll definitely be looking at another Dell replacement.

You couldnt give me a Dell - Ive had 3 - all junk. HP has served me quite well.

I have a dell inspiron 9300. It's very fast and I like it a lot. I've also heard real good things about hp and sony vaio.

thanks for the feed back guys....this si exactly my problem though.....one guy says he LOVES dell and that they are great and another says he's had 3 and they are all junk....i appreciate the help, but now i'm just as confused...know what i mean?

Get a hold of a Consumer Reports and see how they rate them and then do some research on your own. You can get a bad computer from anyone but it all depends on how much you want to spend. I manage our IT department at work and we've had good luck with the IBM Think Pads. I run that at work and Dell at home. We lease all of our computers at work so we swap them out every 2-3 years.

All you need to do is go to www.cnet.com and check any kind of electronics out there. They have reviews on almost any consumer electronic device available. I don't buy anything unless they have approved it.

Dell has been screwing me on their customer service, reported computer broken a month before warranty ran out, they did not fix and are now trying to claim I no longer have a warranty. Screw them and their India service center.
