I replaced all the brake pads on my 2005 V8 yesterday. Everything seemed to go fairly smoothly, but today I notice one is leaking. The wheel that is leaking is the first one I did yesterday, and the only one where I tried to open the bleeder valve to relieve pressure in hopes that it would make it easier to compress the piston (rear driver side if it matters).

Now I realize I hadn't opened the bleeder valve, but rather what is referred to "brake caliper flow bolt" here: http://deneau.info/ls/s6x~us~en~file=s6x64005.htm~gen~ref.htm

And that is where it is leaking from. Any advice on why this is leaking, and how to stop it? That link mentions replacing the copper washers. Think I can get those at the Ford dealership? I can't find them listed on fordparts.com but maybe I can go in and talk to them. Or does anyone know if I can just buy a couple matching washers at Home Depot? Any other ideas why this might be leaking after loosening and retightening?

Have you tried tightening the bolt?

^ thats what i was wondering... lol

seriously, get new crush washers, and re torque the bolt down... problem solved

I would think that a dealer should have these parts in stock (i would think most autoparts stores should too)

also get a brake tool that screws the piston in instead of trying to compress them in...

Just picked up these washers at the Ford dealership. The receipt under description says "EOAZ 2149 B : WASHER" so hopefully that helps anyone who needs these in the future.

I have crap to do tonight so this will have to wait until tomorrow.

And yes, I screwed this thing in seriously tight and it still drips.

Could be wrong, but the crush washers are single use for the banjo bolts. It's at least good practice to replace them when the bolt is taken off, not sure about loosened. Which reminds me, I think I still have new rear SS lines for an STR.

Yes, those copper washers are one use only. You might get a second use out of them, but for the price why take the chance?
