any idea why these bulbs work in one socket but not others?
these are the bulbs i used
LED T10 White Xenon Light Bulbs Wedge 5smd 5050 - 192 168 194 W5W 2825 158
are these the right ones?

All the ones I've tried worked, (probably bought 40 now) T10's anyway, not sure what 5050 are. I used....

It doesn't matter blue or white (in the instrument cluster). But it does matter which way they are put in. If they don't work one way, turn them and try again.
What I did was put them all in and applied 12v to the cluster while on my work bench. You can tell by looking at the circuit board which is + and which is -. Start with that. The ones that don't light just turn 180 degrees and check again. When they were all lit then I put it back in the car and was good to go.
I did the same thing with the eatc.
This way you only pull the cluster once! (or eatc)

If your not sure if the led is good...just apply 12v dc to the led. Make sure it is a low MA 12v dc. Only touch it for a second or you blow the led. A second is all you need to see if it will light or not.

Maybe I should explain...I used a 12v dc charger that was probably from a cordless phone or something. I cut the plug off the end (white wire is positive and black is negative). This charger was 12v dc and had a low milli-amp. You need a low m-amp charger so you don't cook your led's. This is what I used to check the cluster and eatc before I re-installed it. I didn't want to pull them out a second time....:)

went to change the eatc lights...no luck
removed working orig bulbs, put in new led's (right size base), no light, put orig bulbs back in, no light, put tester on led's they work, checked dash fuses, all good, put volt meter on eatc pcb - no voltage; wheel light works, display works, eatc works...no button lights

any ideas?

Lets see some pics of the board where the lights go!
My button lights were not t4's but something else! I had to re-solder the new led's into the original socket in order to get them to work. If the rest of your eatc is working correctly then the problem lie's somewhere around your button light area.

what's confusing is the orig bulbs don't work either,

this is an extra eatc, same as the one in my 96

You got the wrong bulbs. That's what I was saying..."I had to re-solder the new led's into the original sockets"....(so they would work).
Last pic....left bulb works from the back of the circuit board....right bulb works from the front of the circuit board....see the connecting wire?
You have to make your own!
2nd to last pic....square bulb works from the back, round bulb works from the front....You need to take the square bulb out of the socket and re-solder it into the round socket! Then it will work as long as you have the polarity right.
Better yet call me PM sent!
