So my Lincoln LS doesn't crank (manual trans car, yes I'm pressing in the clutch when turning the key) . Today I wanted to updated the cluster in my LS to LED's. So I took parts of the dash off to remove the cluster. To remove one of the cluster bolts I had to remove the the stater switch and push it to the side. Well I removed the bolt and got the cluster loose but I couldn't get it out. It was getting dark so I put everything back. However when I went to start my car it wouldn't start. The key turns but no crank and the steering wheel doesn't release. I didn't unplug anything so not sure why it's not starting. I tried jumping it see if maybe the battery is the issue but no. I've connected a scanner but no codes. When I turn the key I can hear the relays clicking. Any help would be appreciated.

My car is a 2000 Lincoln LS 3.0L V6 with a 5 speed manual.

There's no steering lock on the LS. What do you mean by steering doesn't release?
You probably displaced/disconnected/broke the PATS receiver coil. What is the PATS light doing when you attempt to start? If it is flashing rapidly, then wait for it to slow down and count the flashes. There will be two sets of flashes that repeat. One flash, pause, six flashes, pause - repeat, would be code 16.

V6 with the 5 speed manuals DID have steering lock, I thought.

If the key goes in the dash no steering lock. Besides, the only "real" difference between the manual and the auto is the trans...

They produced some with and some without steering lock, or non at all?

I thought the plan was that LSes sold overseas would have steering lock, but none (other than a few prototypes) were ever made/sold. If any ever did get steering lock, it was to be electrical/electronic, not mechanical directly from the key.

Wonder why the OP's steering wheel won't release other then the PS pump not running due to no current start.
