Hi guys
I am new to the forum!

I am thinking about purchasing new car to use as my daily driver.

I am currently driving 1989 Cadillac Deville (just passed 80,000 mile and in good condition)

I am looking for sportier and newer sedan to use as daily driver and keep my Deville as my "other" car.

my choices are Cadillac CTS (I prefer 2nd gen, post 08 but I will be down with 1st gen as well) and Lincoln LS (2nd gen)

I do not know much about newer Lincoln but I can say that LS does look damn nice and I do love exterior of LS more than CTS

and my gut reaction tell me to get Lincoln LS; however, I have also heard alot of stories about LS's reliability.

I know that CTS is not the most reliable car either, but do you guys have ideas which one would be more reliable?

and if any of you guys were choosing between CTS and LS like me, what made you guys choose LS? and vise versa?

and can you guys also tell me about potential problems I might face if i get 2nd gen LS?

thank you for your help in advance

when i purchased my gen 2 ls i had the same choices i went for my baby( the ls) hands down i just liked it wayyyy more! and about breaking and messing up.. every car does it.. just depends how the previous owner drove it..

Well TBH... If I were you I would just save up and get a CTS V

I like the outside of the ls a lot better and the interior too so ls for me. The only way I might choose a cts, is if it was the cts-v, prob the new ones too, and even then it's a maybe. I dont know about the cts' reliabilty, but the ls has been pretty reliable to me. You'll be facing the usual ls problems, coils going, prob ETC failsafe first but most likely will be the coils and not the throttle body, coolant pipes start to crack maybe in the 100k+ miles, but just change them out yourself and save A LOT of money, if you get an ls with that many miles. I guess the coils is the most commom and maybe dccv too, but there are others less common problems, but I dont consider them big ones, enough to not buy the car. Oh the tranny has issues too, the selenoid goes and start slipping/hitting hard in shifts. Thats what mine has right now which I really want to fix soon.

If you get an ls, welcome!

i just don't like how the cts looks at all, of course if it was a cts v i would consider it, but i can't afford that, i have a gen 1 and have had very few problems

thanks for the replies

I don't really want cts v even though I really like it.
I don't really need that much power and it is too expensive to use as daily driver (i would worry about cts v all the time because I drive about 80 miles a day for commuting and business).
I am going for either cts or LS for my daily driver,
but I have been saving up for one of my dream car: 1996 Cadillac fleetwood brougham 5.7 LT1 engine black/black and mileage should be less than 50,000

I would rather buy either cts or LS and 96 Fleetwood Brougham rather than just a Cts-V

it is really hard choice since I do like both LS and cts
hmmm.........

thanks for the replies!

I don't know about CTS v as my daily driver because I drive about 80 miles a day for work and I think I will worry too much about the car everyday. (even though I really like cts v and i think it is very nicely executed)

I am trying to use the car (either cts or ls) as daily driver (commuting) and probably resell it eventually.

and I have been saving up money to also buy one of my dream car: 1996 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham Lt1 5.7 corvette engine. black/black, mint and mileage should be under 50,000. its truly corvette in tuxedo with this monster 5.7 LT1 engine.

to be honest, I would rather buy either cts or ls as my daily driver AND 96 Fleetwood Brougham to add to my collection RATHER than buying one cts v.

but anyways, it is really hard to decide between cts and LS.
I might go with my gut reaction... which is LS
but I need to think it out more.

yea cts-v would be my choice other than that i would choose an Ls because i think it looks so much better interior and exterior plus word around is Cadillac are a b...h to fix probable the most hardest car. alot of mechanics/bodyshop hate to work on them and they charge you extra

In a perfect world, I'd buy an LS V - perf of the CTS-V w/o the fugly looks :D

Also consider what you are comparing. A RWD V8 (I'm assuming V8) vs a FWD V6. The cars are going to handle completely different.
On top of that, since 06 was the last year for the LS and you said you were looking at post 08 Cadillacs the price difference is going to be pretty big as well.
The LS is a sweeter vehicle all around, but performance-wise the CTS-V is the biggest contender in the group. From what you have posted though it doesn't seem like you care about 0-60 times anyway. Go with the LS.

I too looked at the cts, dts, and sts.

I picked the LS over all three....enough said.

With 144K+ miles on my bought-new '02 LS, I've not been back to the dealer since I ran out of free oil changes at 40K. I've replaced the coils and plugs, replaced the alternator, replaced an interior door latch handle, and I'm on my second battery. And I've set four land speed records at Maxton. Buy the LS. Any used car requires some amount of maintenance.

My wife has a '03 LS8 Sport(135,000 miles), and I have a '05 CTS-V (62,000 miles). Both cars have some issues. My V has had the motor mounts replaced, rear diff rebuilt do to whining, electronic gas pedal replaced twice, and a few other issues. The front brake pads lasted 60,000 miles, so I paid $144 for OEM replacement pads. The radiator tanks crack occasionally, but the radiator is only about $200. The radio buttons and knobs peel exposing white underneath. I touched the buttons up with model paint, and I'm happy. I run the car on premium fuel for performance, but it's not required. My red paint is soft, so lots of care is required to keep the car shiny and scratch free. The car usually averages 16.5 mpg, but I beat it! Usual highway mileage is about 23mpg.

The LS had all the coils replaced at about 100K, $500 worth of cooling plastic replaced (parts only) after 2 on the failures within the cooling system, frozen slides on the rear brakes, a electric cooling fan, bead leaks on the chrome rims. My wife averages 20 mpg driving to downtown Chicago every day. It will get 25 mpg on the open road. The car requires premium fuel, or I hear tip in detonation.

In typical GM fashion the interior looks better than Ford's (IMO, especially the dash), but the materials are inferior to Ford's, so it doesn't hold up as well over time. The V's seats are way more comfortable, but don't offer cooling. The V rides more firmly but is way more fun to drive, and the tires seem to wear better than the LS's. The LS brakes are average, but the V's 14" Brembos are phenominal! Interior and trunk space are about the same, but the LS has a bigger trunk opening. I like mine better. She likes hers.

I originally tried going for a Crysler 300 V6, Caddy STS....and ended up with the Lincoln LS (never heard of it at the time) and I have to say I wouldn't trade it in unless I can get all my features and AWD/More HP/TQ but to buy a newer car (forking 20k+) just to get those 2 things is not reasonable enough for me to get rid of my LS

I still recall the first advertisement I saw for the LS back in '99. I knew I wanted one and had to have it when I could. Two cars later I got an '04 v6 in June '05. It's been a great DD, I just wish it had more power (read: should have got the v8).

The CTS looks cool for now but the LS has looks to last. I'd still rock a CTS-V purely because of the $/performance but not as a DD.
