about a quarter million produced, do you think you'll see many in say 20 years time? I don't know how many LSC's we're produced but I never see them any more.

I don't think there's much incentive for owners to repair/restore LS's in the future, starting to see them with blown motors everywhere.

I know I'll still have mine ;)
 
I think that what will continue to pull them off of the road is that repair parts are getting harder to impossible to find. Otherwise, I would be content to keep both of mine for a very long time.

Which is ridiculous since it has only been 5 years since they stopped being produced. How the hell can I confidently buy a new car from Ford or anyone when necessary parts will be discontinued so damn soon. The world is ass-backwards.

That's the best thing to do. Collect parts Now! Ive been receiving letters from Bob Boyd, where I purchased my 2000 saying they are in desperate need of LS parts and they know I've paid it off. Offering to buy it back in ANY condition! I've got 4 of these letters in the past few months.
 
there's a few in my area with blown engines for 1000-1500, one is a black v8 sport.. think I might have to flatbed that mofo over here.
 
I'd wait till they drop the price a little. I let mine go for $700 . Just to get it out of my driveway.
 
something I've definitely thought about over the last month. Because my LS is missing or has broken little pieces that I know will be impossible to find later on. Mostly interior parts and plastic push pins.

Speaking of which, I think the entire car is kept together by those little plastic b@stards. They are everywhere. Is the engine mounted on those things?

The best way is to look for totaled LSs on ebay.

Every car has used those for years. The age of the screwed-on interior panel went the way of the Dodo bird years age. It's all about ease/speed of assembly.
 
I'm personally hoping to keep my LS for a long, long time, but the availability of parts has me rather worried that doing so will not be easy. Mechanically, my car is sound, but little plastic interior parts seems to love breaking, just like you're talking about b.e, and I HIGHLY doubt I'll be able to get these kinds of things by themselves. And buying a whole car for parts is not an option now or anytime in the near future. So my solution, for now, is to instead ride my bike for short trips in town as a desperate attempt to minimize wear and tear on my car. It has come to that already.
 
Just had this conversation a few weeks back. Oil pumps for the v8 have been discontinued so it makes rebuilding completely fresh a very tough task. I lucked out and found one that had been special ordered but not picked up and ended up on ebay. I will truly minimize the miles on my remanuactured engine because I do want to be the rare one in the crowd in the upcoming years. I am starting at zero miles and intend on about 2500 miles a year moving forward. Yeah.....a garage queen. And there is no way I am parting with the working motor I have now. LOL.
 
I agree it is tough to get parts here too. A couple weeks ago I called EVERY salvage yard in a 50 mile radius to get that removable lower grill piece and see if someone had some good rear lateral suspension bars. No can do!!

The yards either didn't have one or the cars were so blasted/scrapped out that there isn't anything left. :(
 
Im hoping to keep mine for as long as she can hold on for, Gen 2 is next on my list for sure, I feel like alot of people will still own an ls 10 yrs down the road....just like the Mark 8 guys:p
 
anybody know how many Mark 8's we're produced? LS had one more production year then the 8. I don't see many around anymore. The 5 boroughs of NY we're littered with LS's but now you'll mainly only see a few gen2's on the road.

I would have guessed more b/c it was very popular.
 
At some point, I will end up buying a different car for a daily driver. When that happens, the LS will just become an expensive toy. When that is, who knows. Probably in another few years after my drivetrain warranty runs out.

When (or if?) the engine blows, I will probably look at doing some kind of conversion to the new 5.0 motor. While I like the 3.9 and it is treating me well, parts are WAY too scarce already to really warrant rebuilding it. Plus a 440-hp NA 5.0 would be perfect for this car :)

I always remember the Mark 7's being popular. Honestly don't remember hearing much about the Mark 8's. But then again, I was kind of out of it at that time. Busy in life pursuing other things.
