That's a steal at that price! I would be in but I already have it...

I would if it monitored and gave some sorta live feedback. I am guess it does not, right?

that is CHEAP! and yeah it does live data/datalog........kinda sucks i got a 17" laptop though, big o thing sitting in the pass seat............lolol

Get rid of that laptop and install a good Carputer with a 8" VGA touchscreen on the dash, connect the Sniper to it and Wha-Lahhhh!!!!

remember to cut little rectangular holes in the bezel and install USB Ports to them so you can plug flash drives or an IPOD for musics and videos too

This is something i'm interested in and i have cash in hand.

However, im curious as to what the advantages/disadvantage between using this or an xcal tuner would be?

If im gonna drop a few hundred dollars on a tuner i'd like to know from those who have used one or the other what your opinions are.

Lux, that is both an easy question and a hard question to answer.

If you look at the screen shots of the sniper stuff you see pull down menus that make changes to the tune bases on "selections" you choose.
it seems very user friendly.

I use the sct software, when I first opened it I was disapointed there was no "cutesie pull down menus" for me to set my rear gear ratio and other basic mods like exhaust and such.

But, after getting past the very steep learning curve with the sct product and learning alot about tuning in general I say the SCT stuff is more robust and generally better IMHO.

If your looking for a very easy interface that you can "tune your car" within 30 minutes of opening the box..then the special forces sniper tuning might be the right product for you.

I in no way am bashing the sniper stuff...

I committed to the sct stuff mainly due to the fact that Jerry was more than knee deep in developing the software and I knew there would be at a minimum everything I needed to fully support my car and my future mods.

Warning the SCT software is very very involved, there is not alot of "spoonfeeding" of information and your dealing with complicated math sometimes {windows calculator is your friend)

damn this post got too long too fast... and I didn't really want to postwhore Geno's group buy with an SCT commercial.

*Geno you have my permission to delete or edit this if you like I wont cry*

hell... just the complicated nature of the SCT tuning software might be a SNIPER endorsement in itself.
I just dont feel the entry level sniper product suits "my" individual needs.

I hear the "commando" (no underwear?) version of Sniper has the level of complication and access that I'm referring to though. <again a sniper plus)..but I dont know how much the "no underwear" version is.

Geno how much does it cost to "run commando"? (LMAO)

Thanks, lots of good info.

Your not really bashing sniper and i dont recomend deleting your posts.

Theres guys out there that want user friendly screens and theres guys that dont.

Its good to hear real world answers and experiences from people other then those that are selling it and what better place to do so in a group buy thread.

It looks like geno offers a very nice easy to use product and thats a wondeful thing for our Lincoln Community.

Another unexpected SCT suprise was the general lack of people that would give you help (spoon feed)
But in the end I am glad because it forced me to learn and do things myself ( not a bad thing)

Unless you find the absolute correct SCT dealer your support experience might not be what you are looking for.

I was suprised at how "open source" the sniper community is, compared to the SCT community.

That is a good price. Too bad I have it. Bought mine 6 months ago.

well how do you like it?
does it feel like money well spent?

I got the sct stuff 3ish years ago

I paid 1097.00 for software, chip and burner (chip 200, burner 450)

Since then I upgraded the software for 100.00 and got an xcal 2 putting me close to 1300 dollars into this tuning solution for two different cars

Looking back, after all is said and done.. this is by far the best money I spent on modding my car.

The sniper stuff is definatley competitive in the price dept.

If I were going to get the sniper stuff, I would lean towards the Commando version.

I noticed in the screen shots in the software review it was a second gen mark 8 with a cmba0 strategy.. that was cool.

thats why im want the sniper set up, simplicity! i know cars (read: stock!) as for tuning i dont know much at all, so i feel the sniper set up is the way for me, plus i have the other "bullet" for the 5.0 explorer too :D

Please everyonw who is serious please inbox me and in the subject line put "Sniper Group Buy" and then your info in the body. Ill be able to keep a more accurate track.

I'm on the fence. Currently I have an SCT chip burned for my ride, but I didn't tweak it - for all intents & purposes, it is a customized off-the-shelf unit.

The SCT chip did this for me:
Tweak for 93 octane fuel
Adjust fan settings
Turn off my downstream O2 sensors (gutless cats) to keep the CEL off
Adjust transmission shift points & firmness

I want to do all that, plus adjust fuel/air for my modified MAF, and get the tune dialed in. It looks like Sniper is capable of everything I need, correct?

For the members who already own or will be purchasing sniper: seeing as how I am new at tuning this type of thing, might I be able to get some help, tuning files, etc to get started? I'm not new to tuning, and not new to computers, just new to tuning with a computer.

Thanks!

you left out what year your car is.

If it's a 93-95 you are still going to have to seek out some form of datalogging solution...the EEC 4 cars do not have a datalogging solution in place.

If you have a 96-98 then you do have options in regards to datalogging.
BUT...if you want to dial in your AF ratio you will need to get a Wide Band 02 meter... this cannot be stressed enough.

Just because you "command" 12 to 1 AF ratio, without a means to VERIFY the "Delivered" AF ratio, you are treading on dangerous turf messing with the AF ratio.
A "modded maf" is only going to compound your hurdles you have to jump over.

If I were you.. before I did anything with a modded meter.
I would put a stock on on the car.. and get it the MAF transfer function AND the AF ratio's dialed in... THEN and ONLY then would I attempt to tune a modded air meter.

lxryrules, I found one of your old posts.. it says you have a 96.

That makes it alot easier to tune, but it doesnt change the fact your gonna need a GOOD Wide Band 02 solution {not one of the bs light show guages)

Be prepared.. since your getting a good deal on the sniper software that you prepare yourself to "spend more" on a WB02 solution than you did on the tuning software.
Just FYI.
