Purported to be from a song called “In Defense of my Country”

“The end of an empire is messy at best
And this one is ending like all the rest
Like the Spanish Armada adrift on the sea
We’re at home in the land of the brave and the free
Goodbye. Goodbye. Goodbye.”

You guys don't even know what this is from do you ---

A great Randy Newman song ...

Quit being so judgmental before you go to sleep at night... ;)

Now this should really get you going... :)

A President once said,
"The only thing we have to fear is fear itself"
Now it seems like we’re supposed to be afraid
It’s patriotic in fact and color coded
And what are we supposed to be afraid of?
Why, of being afraid
That’s what terror means, doesn’t it?
That’s what it used to mean

Hey, no fair - you edited to add... 'Purported to be from a song called “In Defense of my Country” Bryan-:shifty::(

Well then, let me correct myself-
True patriot(s).

Is that more hope and change?

If they're true patriots, then they should be paying more taxes. Per Joseph Biden.

I bet they do - and since I would imagine they both make considerably more than $250,000 they will be paying even more - still, they probably both voted for Obama...;)

There's nothing stopping them from giving more.
Just for fun, why doesn't someone post a list of Obama's charitable givings in years he's not running for President and compare that with some mean Republican like.. Dick Cheney.

Obama:

NOT EXACTLY A PARAGON OF GENEROSITY

At least not with his own money -- as revealed by Barack Obama's stingy charitable giving record revealed in his publicly disclosed tax returns. But hey, the liberal agenda is never about personal, voluntary generosity. It's about them forcing you to be generous with your money for their causes. Here are the year-by-year portions of AGI that went to charity -- and this includes his contributions to the hate-mongering "reverend" Wright.

2006: 6.1%
2005: 4.7%
2004: 1.2%
2003: 1.4%
2002: 0.4%
2001: 0.5%
2000: 0.9%

Dick Cheney Donates Millions to Charity

In one of the largest sums ever donated to charity by a U.S. public official, Vice President Dick Cheney and his wife Lynne gave away nearly $7 million last year to help the poor and to medical research.

According to income tax information released by the White House on Friday, the Cheneys' adjusted gross income in 2005 was $8,819,006.

The sum was largely the result of Mr. Cheney's stock options from Halliburton and royalties from three books written by Mrs. Cheney.

The Cheneys gave more than three-quarters of their income - $6,869,655 - to several charities, including George Washington University's Cardiothoracic Institute and a charity for low-income high school students in the Washington, D.C. area, Capital Partners for Education.

The Cheneys' charitable generosity stands in marked contrast to that of their predecessors, whose sometimes stingy donations became a national embarrassment.

In 1997 for instance, Al and Tipper Gore contributed just $353 to charity, a sum that raised eyebrows even in friendly media circles.

The Los Angeles Times noted, for instance, that the Gores' slender donation "caused some bewilderment in philanthropic circles because of the vice president's 'good guy' image as an advocate for public service and social causes."

The same year the Gores gave $353 to charity, they reported $197,729 in adjusted gross income.

Wow - and you should look at Biden's his is really bad...

This is very clever Calabrio - how to introduce exactly what you want - by someone else... And you don't even have to wear leotards and capes and call yourselves the dynamic duo... ;)

Masterful job of using a lot of words to say nothing. Just like the Ossiah.

You're just trying to get me into a pair of tight pants.....

And your words were saying something regarding Ayers' use of Randy Newman's lyrics on his website?

Cheney does give a lot of money - that is great - he has a lot of money to give. Obama could give more - certainly - but, he is raising a couple of kids, and has been at least moving up.

I haven't ever understood why the Gore's don't give more - they make plenty, I know he does contribute all his time to his causes - but, I really don't know what his current contribution rates are -

Oh, and yes, Calabrio - I still see you as some sort of Steve McQueen clone (that last avatar you used) and he had a great butt... So, how about those tight pants... got any in the closet????;) You can leave the cape at home...

You will note that I posted the PERCENTAGE of money donated as well as the amount. Obama has recently published TWO best sellers. He has zero excuse. And raising a couple of kids is so much horsesh!t. But then again, I guess the price of arugula is rather high these days.

I judge people by their deeds, not their words. I guess you do the opposite, which is why you voted and campaigned for Obama.

You mean his industry.
Al Gore is making a fortune with his "Global Climate Change" pitch and academy award winning infomercial. The guy is supposed to be worth $100,000,000 now. Apparently he did quite well during the Bush years.

So, how about those tight pants... got any in the closet????;) You can leave the cape at home...
Do I get to wear a mask?

Well, once again, I am not sure you voted for McCain - I mean you could have voted for Barr (however, never Nader), but just in case...

Cindy and John McCain's total income for 2007 was approximately 6,250,000 (the beer business is good) their charitable contributions were 211,000. Quick, let's break out those calculators... hummm 3.2% - the Obama's gave 240,000 on 4.1 million in income in 2007 - 5.8%...

Now, the McCains have kids too... but, that's right - we get to discount them.

So, do actions speak louder than words Foss?

I actually 'percentage wise...' only gave slightly more than the Obamas - so, I guess I really can't be pointing...

And Calabrio - oh, what fun - masks!!!! Maybe just masks... I have always liked that scene in Eyes Wide Shut.... ;)

Whoops - i got so distracted with the whole mask thing...

Gore is doing well... see, green technology does pay ;) (now, I know he isn't green - let;s not go there... this is a joke... joke... get it...???)

While campaigning, of course Obama is going to donate more. Pandering much? I'm not impressed. And I did vote for McCain.

Oh, and your insertion of McCain into the discussion was a red herring, since it originally started out about Cheney and Obama. You didn't address the issue; instead you tried to distract from it.

No, originally it was about Randy Newman's lyrics on Ayers site - I believe foss that Calabrio led you down some odd road of charitable contributions (along with capes and leotards and masks - oh my;) ) I guess I could call red herring first - :)

You guys just inserted some weird thing suddenly, with the whole paying taxes and charitable contributions. - I can obviously do the same. Or, do your rules only apply to me, and not to you? At least I am going down the same path that you talked about - charitable contributions - your whole tax thing was a right turn... ;)

While campaigning, of course Obama is going to donate more. Pandering much? I'm not impressed.

And what was McCain doing if not campaigning? Heck the man has been campaigning for 8 years... Did he just forget to contribute because he is old? Maybe that is his version of 'pandering"...

You're just jealous - because I think Calabrio would look better in a nice Batman outfit then you would look in the Boy Wonder's garb...;)

No I didn't. It was always there. You can even go to another site and see the exact same post. H had I edited it after you posted, the [edit] comment would have shown up at the bottom of the post. Like I said, nice try.

Next time try reading EACH line of the post. Speed reading isn't fundamental.

Whoops - sorry Bryan - I really didn't see it first time around

But, I am just adding this line in edit - and you know what - I think us mere mortals don't see any 'edit' indications - I believe it is only the lords of the site... But I could be wrong - is it somewhere where I can see it - than I wouldn't make the same silly mistake again...

Yet another edit - it took me just until now to figure out the little blue or green dot in the lower left hand side of each post (next to the explination sign in the triangle) means that the person is online...

You are allowed time to edit, whether it be you or me without an edit comment showing up. After that time expires, the edit comment shows from moderators or admins also. So take a look at the time I posted and you 1st posted with your misguided comment.

Now take a look at my previous post to this one.

I see yours - but, you know I edited post number 17 - the 'whoops' line was added, and I don't see anything there...

Maybe it is firefox?

And I will gladly buy you a beer or 3 Bryan:)
