When I accelerate my car loses power between 3000 and 4000 RPM on my 98 mark. It doesnt matter if the engine is warm or cold. I tried reving it in park and it hesitates in the same range. I just had a tune a month ago and that did not help either. The problem seems to be getting worse.

might be the throttle position sensor, get the codes ran.....even though the CEL doesn't appear doesn't mean that the computer doesn't have codes stored in it.

my guess goes with IMRC's...they should be opening at 3000, and if they dont, your car, basically, will be down on power in the upper range.

No CE light though, huh? Gen 2 should throw a code if IMRC's arent operating properly.

I would buy a can of seafoam, and run it through the system...might have stuck IMRC's.

Thanks guys. I'll give the seafoam a try. Probably should have done it by now anyway.

thats bad, @ 3100rpm is when my mark realy opens up and kicks butt!

question about seafoam

I have never used seafoam before but have heard you guys speak well of it. I went to Autozone and asked about it and the guy said that there are different kinds. Which kind should I start with to try to clean the engine out a little?

What is an IMRC? I'm a Mark owner, but funny enough I have this exact prob on my daughter's 94 Ford Expl... perhaps it is the same thing?? Dealer had it 2 weeks and couldn't diagnose. If it happens in park when pushing tach to 3-4k and in drive at the same range, does it make a difference?

I tried fuel injectors, fuel pump, MAF, plugs, etc. It definitely feels like it is not getting gas when it happens...

Thanks

Everytime I go into the dealer I mention the problem. They say the car is just getting old, so I have accepted it, but lately it has been getting worse. I do have 91,000 miles on the car but after hearing how many miles are on other cars in this forum, I feel it's just getting broken in. Hopefully this seafoam works, if it doesn't, anyone know how much it could cost to replace IMRC's?
