So Bill and I were watching some "Record Breaker" show on TV, a group of people were screaming, and some dude trying to break his own record of loudest burp...and I get an idea to play with the Db meter.

Since I was a kid people have always said I could whistle really loud, most even say it hurts to be close to me when I whistle..

So I did some googling and found this

"A SPRINGHEAD man got into the Guinness Book of Records with the world’s loudest-ever whistle. Roy Lomas, 40, of Springhead, discovered his talent after his wife, Jacky, saw a TV programme about record breakers. When the Ivy Green Drive resident recorded his own whistle he found it was 122.5 decibels – more than three decibels higher than the previous record." --

We recorded my whistle at 140.5 Db

The meter was just some App he downloaded on his Droid, seemed accurate tho, it measured speach pretty accurate, since human speach is between 20-30 Db

I just thought it was kinda cool. I doubt id ever make a world record with it, and even if I did I'm sure someone would probably break it

I'll do a video of it next time I go out there to hang out.
Also note, I don't use a "device" but I do use my thumb and index finger

go to a sound competition and whistle into the mic, who knows you might walk away with a trophy:D:D:D:D. There's one coming up in Pearland Texas, assuming you are in Texas, with Waco as your location there.

Pearland is on the south side of Houston, 3.5 hour drive. 2 hour drive from Waco to Houston, then another hour to get thru Houston.

The SPL meters for the iPhone are nuts on with my $800 unit I have. It also depends on the weighting used by the record book. Try SPL Meter for your iPhone they have a free version. It works well. Set the weighting to "C" thats what most of the pros use.

Human speech is not 30db. Anyway I compared its readings with what the SHO is supposed to be at 70mph and it was within 2 db. Also normal room noise tracs right and normal conversation also seems to track right.
I sat in Sappers car and tried the stereo and recorded 129db so it seems fairly accurate. I know its not balls on and a 3db difference is HUGE as far as output goes but I did see 141.XX for his whistle with the mic at 3'

When he whistles my ears hurt for quite some time.
