Hello all,
I have read previous threads about the LS alarm (http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/showthread.php?t=5129&highlight=alarm), but when testing my alarm today, I found that the alarm disarms if you press the lock button twice. I always use my remote start to lock my car, and I always press it twice to get it to chirp. I always assumed that the chirp meant it was armed. Today, I rolled my windows down, pressed the lock button once, waited 20 sec then opened a door and the alarm went off (this works for any door). Then I pressed the lock button twice to get the chirp, waited 20 sec then opened a door and the alarm does not go off (does not work for any door). The LED on the dash pulses either way the car is locked. This means that 98% of the time that I have parked my car and felt secure by the chirp, my alarm system was not armed. Is this how its supposed to be? Does anyone know of a way to tweak the system so that when the alarm is armed, I hear the chirp? :feedback It seems that I have had a false sense of security for a while.

did you ever notice that you steering wheel is locked up when the alarm goes off as well.

What I meant is... if you have a regular cut key (all metal with no plastic on it) one you really couldnt use to start up the car, since it dont have a chip in it;

anyway, take that kind of key and try to start it, it should turn inside of the ignition, but shouldnt start /or keep the engine running.

While you are trying that., and turn that sort of key in ignition, does your steering wheel remain in LOCKED position?

p.s. hope that makes sence.

I don't know if this is true for all years, but on my '04, pressing the lock button on the remote twice definitely arms the factory alarm. It chirps once if the car is secure; it chirps twice if any of the following are open/ajar: doors, trunk, or hood.

I can tell you for a fact that it does arm the system on my car; I'm having a problem with my horn (which seems to be localized in the power distribution box, but I digress), and arming the system is the surest way to make the horn chirp while I'm under the hood. This is all well and good if you close the hood when you're done, but twice I've had the hood bounce and latch in the "not quite closed" position. As you may have guessed from the fact that the hood is listed in the "chirp twice if it's open" category, this sets off the alarm, which is incredibly loud when you're standing directly in front of the car. ;) :slam

So, if your car's alarm is not going off upon opening the door after hearing the chirp, there's something wrong. Dunno what it is; it could be the same horn problem I have. Watch the directional flashers; if the horn's not working (my problem is intermittent), they will still flash when the alarm is tripped.
