LS Bunch

No, they just have problems. When I was looking at cars several years ago, the LS was on my list too. After talking to some service writers and mechanics, I decided to stay away from them for a few years until I could afford an '02 or newer one.

Well, most problems are with the 2000 and 2001 LS's. Those were the first year LS's. More and more of the younger crowd are buying them since they are pretty inexpensive on the used market.

From what I hear, LS's are made very poorly. They fall apart with higher miles..

Oh, by all means, I am not trying to start a war. I just got to thinking, that with some of our cars pushing 13 years old (lets not talk about the guys with the VIIs), we just don't seem to have as many mechanical problems as the LS guys.

They shoulda bought themselves Marks, but who are we to tell them that.

I like them both, very different cars thou. Personally my Mark has had alot of little crap break. Nothing at all on the LSE yet. Did buy it with fewer miles.

I think it is all subjective. Any newer vehicles will have problems that will be ironed out with time. That is why buying a used vehicle is so nice because not only do you spare yourself the depreciation hit but you also get a car that is less likely to break because if things were to break, hopefully they were already fixed by then.

It is kind of like my fiance's 97 POS Sunfire. It is slowly rattling apart because it is a cheapo car, but now that things have been given a decent interval to go wrong all the weak links are fixed now.

I would give the LS a little more grace period before writing if off when compared to the MarkVIII. The marks have been givn their chance to fail and get fixed, we are stillin the failing only stage and some haven't fixed and then ran their LS for long afterwards. It is late and I am tired so I hope I make some sense. ;)

All the problems with my car have been ironed out. It's running fine now. I mean I guess you could say all we talk about is "rims" but I could also talk about how some of the MK8 members think their cars are rocketships. You talk down to us like we have a bunch of 4 door slugs when you run three tenths of a second quicker in the quarter. Not saying the LS is fast, but just stating a point.

Now that you mention it I do kind of notice that occassionally. I dont mean to bust on any group of people but I do see certain people exhibiting that mindset at times. Hopefully this convo can run well and civil without anyone, LS or Mark, getting bent out of shape and taking any constructive criticism given personally.

The LS is a cool looking car and it is every bit a Lincoln as the Mark VIII, which i hope to own someday. The LS owners take just as much pride in their cars as the rest of us do, and that is cool

Good call, let's all be civil here.

i like both cars - but i think the reason you find that attitude is because the mark has a large aftermarket due to the cobra aspect - and also has greater potential for performance. don't take that the wrong way, I really like the LS.

Same here I like the LS's but the Mark VIII is more affordable, more economical, and I like the 2 door style.

LS's very sharp, fun to drive....

What I think you are seeing with the issues are that most of the Mark VIII's have worked out their bugs and the LS guys are just starting too work out their bugs. Many seem to have just purchased their LSs and are just getting to the bugs to make them nice cars again.

Personally I like the Mark VIII better and will buy another as time goes by. Not sure about the LSs yet but once the Mark VIIIs are no longer available then I'll think about an LS.

One of my good friends just bought an LS and he loves it.
