I have a Black 2000 LS V8 Sport. Can I paint the plastic chrome grille to look like the LSE black grille? Can I paint the rear license plate chrome or plastic chrome thing too? Or it that impossible?

Can I buy an a black LSE grill and rear thing?

The dealer said one cannot paint the plastic chrome. Is this true? Thanks.

If it is bare plastic you will have to wipe it with plastic prep, and spray on a coat of plastic primer or adhesion promoter before top coating.

May want to add flex agent into it to prevent cracking/chipping from shutting the hood or other twists/tweaks it might take while driving, otherwise you can use a 400/600 sandpaper to scuff the surface, lay down some plastic primer and go to down in the spray booth.

Scuff pads often work well if used hard.. I would probably strip the chrome spray coat off entirely just because thats the way I am.

P.S Make sure to use a good degreaser, wax and other polishes do build up, and scuffing isn't always the only way to remove it and get it ready for paint.

By the way, ebay has them up right now, a factory painted taillight panel assembly for 00-02. Black, Chrome, Silver and more!

The ones on Ebay are the chrome or plastic chrome that I already have that I want to replace with black, like the LSE. Can you provide me a link?

Can these realistically be painted, the (top of the) front grille and rear panel thing? Or do I have to buy factory painted black ones?

The gentlemen who sells them has the black ones, I know because i've recently just bought one =)

*The link above however is to one that has ended, but they do exist ;)

As for your painting question, please refer to my original reply to your thread.

I've found that it's easier to just buy an already painted piece rather than fart around with chromed pieces that don't keep their finish long.

OEM LSE grills can be had for under $100, and they look AWESOME :).

They certainly can be! - However if you can snag one of those chrome ones for $6, get a pint of your color code and a tad bit of clear, or have a shop do it, your cost is about $35 at worst i'd imagine. It's always fun mixing and matching parts from different years on the cars.

I've got a few neat things im about to be done with and have on the car, then I can finally put it in my photo garage!

rear LSE (Black)

didjital:

1) can you let me know how you install it? I might get one, if they are only $36. Are you sure these are bona fide Lincoln parts? Why are they so cheap, are they used?

Thanks again.

PS btw, Lincoln dealer/parts wants $150.00 for a 2002 Black LSE grille, and then they'll charge me labor. 2) Can a grille be installed by the individual?

Kevin:

OEM means Original Equip Manf. ?

Are you saying Lincoln sells LSE grills for uner $100? Where and how do I find these OEM grilles?

Thanks much.

Installing the front grille is very easy. There are 4 nuts behind the hood that you take off. After that use some pliers to "compress" the clips at the bottom and push out. The grill will come out then. Just press the new grille in place and bolt it back. Very simple job.
