Hey All,

I know this may have been talked about a lot in the past, and I've searched this topic without really finding what I was looking for... But What are the differences between the LS and the X-Type ? I know they're not the same car at all and I know they only share the platform, nothing else. But would you guys even consider a X-Type? After reading this forum for the past few days, I'm kinda reconsidering my LS purchase. I love the looks of the X-Type but always thought they were somewhat flimsy and not reliable. Aside from the fact that you can't get a V8 in the X-Type, what do you guys think?

Thanks.

The LS is the same platform as the S-type and the 3.9 is the same block as the 4.0. The X-type is different all together. I considered the X-type before my LSE purchase but ruled it out fairly quickly based on the fact its a bit small for my taste and the lack of the V-8. I liked the fact I could get the manual with the 3.0 but the auto was a no charge option for the 3.0 so manuals are almost imposible to find. Combine that with me being picky about the color I would get in and out, I just figured between all of that, I be looking forever and found my LSE quite easily. I like the look also, but think it border lines a compact styling. A black on black sport 3.0 manual would be the ultimate in looks IMO. They are also AWD which can be good or bad depending on what you like, I'm a rear wheel person.

The X-type Jag shares the platform with the European Ford Mondeo, the S-Type is the one that shares the platform with the LS as the 02LSE96LSC91SE84TC said.

One of my friends has a X-type 2.5 auto, I have driven it, it's ok, it felt slower than my V6 LS auto. I like the interior quality better in jag though, the dash was really nice, but the interior also was a bit smaller then in the LS. The handling was OK, but it more felt like front wheel drive car than all wheel drive. The LS is better in anyways in my opinion, it is bigger, faster (V8 LS vs 3.0 jag), handles nicer and looks better.

I think maybe you meant the S-type Jag not the X-type??

Iancusp why such hate towards Jaguar?

Let me guess you or someone you know owned a late 70s to early 80s Jaguar?

No actually, I meant the X-Type. I don't like the S-type. I'm considering the X-type right now. After reading this forum lately, I'm not sure I want a car which I can't rely on. I dunno anymore...

The difference between the LS and the X-Type is pretty much everything except for the facts that they're four-door sedans, products of the Ford Motor Company, and they both offered the Duratec 3.0 V6--and, if what I've heard recently about the X-Type is true, both are soon to be ex-cars. The X-Type is AWD and smaller than the LS; it's also imported, whereas the LS is built in Wixom, MI, at least for the next couple of months (if that's important to you).

My '04 Sport (V8) has been extremely reliable, and there are a lot of people who share my experience. The '00 LSes seem to have more problems, but that was not just the first year for a new car, but the first year for an entirely new platform, so some problems are to be expected. They're also six years old now, and some are going on seven (2000 is the first model year, but some were produced in early 1999) , so you should be expecting some things to go wrong. The problems seem to decrease as you get to the later model years; 2002 seems to be the best year of the '00-'02 LSes, and there doesn't seem to be a great deal of difference, quality-wise, in the '03-'06 LSes. The '03s had some minor issues, but '03 was a major make-over year, so some problems should be expected. They were pretty much resolved by '04, so if those problems were addressed while under warranty, they should be solid cars.

The X-type is a small car. I think my dads Taurus is bigger. Jag obviously has better quality as far as interior and all but the engine options are terrible and underpowered. As far as reading this forum and and finding the LS to be unreliable, keep in mind this forum consists of a couple hundred out of thousands and thousands of Lincoln LS owners. Also keep in mind that the people on here all tinker with their cars and that will definately have an effect on reliability. I have an '02 and i can say its been a great car, i drive 500 miles a week and with 76000 miles now the car has been nothing but reliable. Anything you buy has the potential to break. If you like the car and have the money then buy one and dont let the posts on here influence your decision. I think you'd be happier with the LS than the X-Type.
