Hey I just got my 2000 ls about 3 weeks ago and noticed when I put it into manual it never goes into first gear its always at 2nd. Except when I floor it, I have to switch gears into second and then third if I dont floor it is it automaticaly in 1st and just switches to 2nd it self? but it always says second unless I floor it then It goes to first

Yeah, that's normal for all 2000-2002 LS's. It's how they got around emissions if I'm not mistaken. So worry not and enjoy your new baby :Beer :V

Once you down shift in SST and you see that it is displaying 2nd gear. Goose the gas pedal it should go down to first. I have an 01, and it works for me.

Yea thats what happens it only goes to 1st when I floor it but i cant just have it in first at a red light I guess it doesnt really matter as long as it goes to first anyway

Well, I'm gonna be that guy and bring this up... I've not really played to much with the SST yet as I was a bit afraid of breaking something haha!

I've played with it a bit but never really gave the SST hell to see what its made of. Is there a chart of average RPM the LSV8 will go per each gear in SST as you shift from 1st? (provided you goosed the gas and got it in SST 1st).

And secondly, whats the best way to come out of it? I didnt want to attempt to be going any high rate of speed and jam it back into D4 or D5. It seems to really gear down when i've giving it some gas and put it up into third but i've never really takin it as hard as im sure most of you have.

Any special things you guys do while using it? Except the 1st gear trick with the >60% throttle to pop it in 1st, which i've done.. and how to safely come out of it.

Is it also safe to move into it while you're going 25/30MPH already in d4/d5?

Thanks guys... just dont wanna hurt anything on muh baby!

- not sure what you're asking - you have to shift when in SST - it will not shift for you.

- just like a manual - downshift when you are at an appropriate RPM range for the next gear.

- nope - shift when you want to.

- yes - it will disply the current gear you are in and you start from there.

Thanks a ton! - The one thing i want to clear up is this first bit you answered, basically what i was looking for was a range that each gear winds out at. I can drive regular manuals but i've never actually driven an automatic like the LS with SST which allows for manual shifts in an automatic environment.

So I could switch right to sst, in the middle, and it starts at the gear im driving in, then if it slows down i can downshift and give it hell back up?

Your help is greatly appreciated, never ceases to amaze me how much support everyone in the lincoln community gives, hopefully i can return the knowledge when i know more about them.

Thanks guys

if you're looking for the fastest ET from a standing start - leave it in auto and mash the pedal to the floor - the shifts points are almost perfect and D5 starts in first.

I use SST to hold the gear while I turn and touch the brakes, where the auto may actually upshift seeing the lack of trottle and a high RPM.

D5 starts in 1st?
I though D4 starts in 1st and D5 starts in 2nd?
I thought I read that somewhere...

When I have it in manual and forget to shift up or down it does it automaticaly

it will shift down at a stop (close to it) - mine will never upshift - I can sit at red line all day (if I can bear to hear the V8 crying)

I did this on a test drive when I was shopping for my LS. Oops. Not used to self-shifting. I'm glad Lincoln made it that way, though, instead of having the nanny step in and shift it for you.
