Normally, you would insert the key in
the drivers door, turn left, then right
to disarm and reset it. If yours is malfunctioning,
you can disable it for good by doing the following:

Not sure if this has ever been posted but .... I found this today while searching for a solution to my son's Mark VIII.

The FACTORY ALARM DISARM WIRE IS
dk. green/purple |-|, located
in the drivers kick panel area or,
at the Ford Factory security module
located behind right side of dash,
near right kick panel.

Once located, splice into this wire with
a simular guage wire, and put it to
a solid chassis ground. This terminates
the alarm functions entirely.

However, at this point, this car would be exceedingly
easy to steel, so I suggest you get an aftermarket
alarm system to protect it from here on in.

mespock,

For the dk. green/purple negative wire you spliced into, did you run the wire from the anti-theft box to ground, or the other side of the wire to ground? Or did you just bare the wire without cutting it and run a ground wire?

My MKIII is a '96 that I just purchased from my uncle. He had an issue with the alarm while replacing the passenger door handle, but after reconnecting the rotating switch on the tumbler, then letting the car sit over night, the car started right up, and had not had a problem untill I bought it and took it to get emissions and safety inspection. After the inspection, the alarm light continuously flashed, and the car would not fire. I left the car at the inspection station for about 7 hours, went back and it fired right up and drove home. Drove to work the next morning just fine, but then failed to fire (with the alarm light flashing) on my lunch break. I pulled the door panel to check the connection on the switch there, and found that it had fallen off the tumbler, but reattaching it makes no difference. The alarm light coninues to flash, and the car will not fire.

Do you know if the method you described above to disable the alarm will work for the '96, or are the wire colors/specs different from year to year. My local dealers will give me no information to help diagnose the problem.......their only concern is getting it into a bay in their shop, and the diagrams i can find for wiring show no information about the anti-theft system. Any info you could provide would be appreciated.

The anti-theft module says to call an 800 number before replacing. Is there some reprogramming that needs to be done when swapping the module, or some other issue that could arise from simply swapping a new/used one in?

I have access to a '94 Mark VIII that hit two cows and totaled the front end, would the module out of that car be compatible with my '96?

I appreciate the info provided, local dealers are unwilling to help, auto shops don't want to do anything but get it in their shop to fix it, and parts stores have almost no info at all on any of the anti-theft system components.

I had a 94 and around 2001 it started alarming for no reason and as per say the dealer we started disconnecting sensors hoping to find the problem. No luck then I started noticing it would alarm even when it wasn't locked. With this info we went on line and found a service bulletin on a anti tapering wire in the ignition that would get corroded and do this. there was a replacement part for 15.00 to fix it. Problem solved.

Cows?!?!?

That just made my day

Yep. Baby first, then the momma about 10 feet later. Hit the calf around 55 mph, rolled over the front end, up the hood, into the windshield, across the roof and off the back........then hit the momma cow doin around 50 mph........and the car stopped dead in its tracks. Cracked the radiator, wiped out the grill, front bumper, hood, roof, and the driver fender........not too mention glass and blood all over the interior. But, it still drove away under its own power.....and the momma cow walk off down the road, to be put down later by the owner.

That was the first cow vs. car in the family.........but my uncle drives from southeast Idaho to Logan, Utah and back everyday (150 miles round trip, 5 days a week), through one of two canyons each way. He has several deer, skunks, dogs, a couple of elk, and a farmers mail box under his belt in the last few years.
