Hi guys, first want to thank you guys for the best mark vii site on the web. You have been very helpful to me over the years. Maybe one more time? I have a 92 mark viii that just started having a very unnerving problem. At speeds above about 55 the front end will continue to go straight but the back end fishtails badly. Of course I stopped driving it. Any ideas? Thanks

Aside from the obvious like tire pressures, i'd check the rear sway bar - they are hollow, prone to corrosion and tend to snap. Also, check sway bar end links.

Other things that can lead to the rear end 'wandering' are worn shocks, worn IRS bushings (with resulting bad wheel alignment) and possibly bad wheel bearings.

If the sway bar is ok, just check over the integrity of everything back there - right down to the wheel nuts.

this might sound odd but my jeep had a similar issue i replaced the entire front steering system and it was still there. the issue was the tires were bad, visually they were fine but i put new ones on and the wandering went away...so how good/new are the tires?

Alignment?

My rear bar has been snapped in two for years and never a problem like this. Just FYI.

Same here. Plus a broken or missing rear bar would only cause the car to push more, not lead to more oversteer. So in the OPs case it would only help his problem.

True about the rear bar - without it the car just under steers more - i was thinking of a situation that happened to me where a bar snapped suddenly, causing me to spin.

Checking his old posts, i think he has an VIII (8)

Hmmm.... I thought a fishtail mark would actually add stability....
