Drove to Lake Geneva from Chicago, averaged 15.1 M.P.G. What needs to be replaced to make this better???

Dont forget the air filter And cleaning the wire in the mass air. I picked up 3 mpg just by doing that. I currently get 16-18 around town and 25 on the high way with the a/c on

I've been getting close to 16 city and 27 highway lately. I recently had a jump in mileage. Probably due to replacing worn front suspension parts. I also replaced my mufflers with 3" tips, but don't know if that did anything. I have also replaced air/fuel filters, and plug wires. Yeah try cleaning your MAF sensor like poney said. It takes about 5 minutes.

Just shoot cleaner up the air intake?

No. Take the air box off the car and remove the filter. Look down into the air box and you'll see the 2 wires for the MAF. Just shoot electrical connection cleaner on those wires for a min. and let them dry. I think Geno said you can use Gumcutter 2+2 or whatever as well.

i think i might need new plug wires, has scorch marks on 1 or 2 of them. my car was running poorly, choked, hesitated. you name it. i cleaned it with carb cleaner like you guys were saying,"worked well". before i had a friend change my fuel filter, it was solid. i keep getting a fuel to lean code even after both things done. fuel pump maybe? but anyway i get about 16mpg in town and accoding to my message center........anywhere from average of 30.5 or so highway.....or is it wrong maybe? lol

before something bad happens, i suggest you check that your friend didnt put the new fuel filter in backwards...

I took the airbox out, and looked down the big tube, and there are no wires.

I also have a '97, so I don't know if it is different for Gen II's.

On the top half of the box retaining the air filter- inside you'll see the MAS. Inside it you see a little tube with two very tiny little wires running across it.
