Does anyone know where I can get a (hopefully) free diagram for the transmission for a 94 Mark Viii? It's an automatic. Thanks so much.

Dang man, do you have some kind of program? If so, please share.

Program? No, shop has Alldata, but those pics I found just by researching the Internet. I can pretty much get ya any diagram you want.

I know you're not gonna believe this, but it isn't as bad as it looks.

If anybody has access to one they can take apart, I recommend it. Once you get the pump off the front of the case, you can pretty much pull everything out (it's like clutch pack after clutch pack - 1st the Intermediate clutches then the reverse drum that contains the - u guessed it - reverse clutches. After that the forward shaft & clutches, then direct clutch assembly. Now you're at the output shaft and you've taken it completely apart!) There is a couple of bands and one-way clutches along the way too. :D

The old power glide 2 speed isn't so bad but no way I'm messing with a modern day 4 plus speed auto. I have my racing buddy the tranny guy who gets all my business. Best thing to do is take good care of them and not have to fix them.

I do plan to get a new convertor in the spring and plan to put that in myself but that is no where near the job of rebuilding the whole thing.

For the halibut, my buddy and I took apart a 4r70w and the parts could've stretched from here to Texas. It's no wonder rebuilds are so costly. I think the transmission is the most complicated part to these cars. And no, we were not able to put humpty dumpty back together again. LOL

I've always been wanting to do that. If it was not so much work to R&R the trans out of the car to test I would have tried to rebuild it myself.

Considering this is transmission number 5 for me...maybe I shouldn’t.

OMG what have go into...my dream car has become a nightmare! Schematic hell..thanks!:confused::cool:

It's not as hard as you think. It's all about keeping things in their proper sequence. I've rebuilt several automatics, not a big deal really.

The hardest part is removing/installing it from the car!

I watched a youtube video for assembly of the 4R70W. Guy assembled it in abt 15 min. So I would guess you are right. Most difficult part is removing it and reinstalling it after the rebuild. I hope to be able to try a rebuild someday. Pull-A-part sells their transmissions for $85. So, at least in theory, I could remove and rebuild one and then swap it for the one that is failing/ailing(?) on my car at the moment. I feel a little bit more intelligent now that I have seen the schematic and done some homework.:)
