mark vs. bird

To repeat what I just posted in the comments section on that video...

A: The stock Mark VIII is 280 HP

B: That T-bird has more then just engine mods; most likely more agressive gears in the rear with a limited slip (which isn't stock for that car). The Mark VIII is an open rear (non-limited slip) 3.07 rear end.

There is no way a 3.8 non-supercharged engine in that car could smoke a Mark VIII. The cars are about the same weight, and the Mark has a large HP advantage. I don't know what the stock rear gearing is on the T-bird, but unless it is a supercoupe (it isn't) the gearing is about the same as the Mark and is an open rear end. Don't think the donuts could've been done like that without a LSD.

I call gearing, LSD and at least a 50 shot of NOS on the T-Bird to be able to do that.

The bird still lost and on a wet road I know my mark with an open diff wont get off the line worth crap

It took the mark a long time to catch it though, The bird ran pretty good. I'm guessing maybe some NOS as well?

Hadn't considered NOS.

Don't consider it a worthy mod, myself, anyway.

I know my friend has a v6 tbird with a new trans.. and it runs okay... nothing like the poony lincoln i drove.... and that mark still woulda beat his v6... that car must have been more than just a few bolt ons... gears... cold air, chip, seemed like stock exhaust, maybe some internals replaced.. I've never seen nitrous used before.. so i couldn't tell....

 How about the idiot standing in the middle of the road with the camera and letting the cars pass on both side of him!!!!:Bang :slam :runaway:

As far as i saw the mark got him in the end both times and as far as im concerned if it was a gen 1 it would never have happend :facesjump

a 90 t-bird SC would blow the doors off my mark anyday...

a 90 t-bird SC would blow the doors off my mark anyday...

The only way that it would do that is if the driver knew how to get that kind of perfomance out of a T-Bird, and that is the only way. Cars DO NOT win races DRIVERS DO.

im sorry a SC would beat a mark viii...and theres not many times i'd say anything could beat our cars...but the 90 tbird my dad had man was killer...you could be blind and have no arms and still beat a mark viii in a SC...

is this stock vs stock? their weight is about equal and the mark has 50 more horses depending on which SC your talking about, 90 has a 70 hp @ 210 v mark 280. however the torque is impressive "horsepower sells cars, torque wins races" also im assuming were talking manual here in the SC (however I think I read the auto ones had more boost in the older years stock??) i personally HATE auto. its boring, but its easy to operate and predictable (like some ex-girlfriends ive had)

driver skill has a lot to do with it, but to a point. what type of driving and in what situation always matter.

ide venture on the highway that sc is getting SMOKED

oh yea and no laughs on the bird vs jordan cmon guys lighten up, NOTHING BUT NET!

i was doing some research, man that T bird SVE is freakin sweet, too bad it never panned out. How come there are no supercharger setups like that available? im assuming that motor is the "B" heads.

also thummed through a magazine today and it featured the 4.6 DOHC intake manifolds, in mustand and something or other high powered fords???? hey those intake manifolds make a HUGE difference depending on which one is on there.

My 97 V6 Tbird had 3.27's open diff stock.

I'm pretty sure I've seen this tbird on TCCoA before. Don't recall any info on mods tho.

That's what I was thinking!!! Someone wants to test out the theory of natural selection...

youre right. if it was a gen 1 the mark wouldnt have to play catch up;)

i call gears, LSD, and spray.

personally id love to run into a lightly modded SC. ive driven a few stock 1s and im not worried about them until a pulley swap happens.

a 90 t-bird SC would blow the doors off my mark anyday...

1990 Sc ran 0-60mph in 7.4 sec. and 15.8 sec 1/4 mile with autotrans

the later ones had a little more boost and ran 7.0 and 15.4 ,

a gen one will run with/pull away from an auto sc every time.

how do i know?

,i had a 89 sc and my dad had his 93 mark, he always beat me in races except for the first 30 mph,the sc has a lot of torque and was good until the mark hit middle of first gear, then the mark walked away.

na bird vs jordan :)

OK  HA I get it....

Having had both a T-Bird and a Mark -the T-Bird has to have gears, some engine upgrades and prob a performance tune, I didn't hear a supercharger. Either way still pretty well done.

I dont care how much trust I have in my friends driving abilities (on a wet road no less) there is no way in hell I would be standing in the center of the road, camera or not!

Cars DO NOT win races DRIVERS DO.

To a degree, yes; if you are saying that a car cannot win a race without a driver, and the driver is the one who is credited with winning, not the car. But outside of that extreme, that statement is an inaccurate mischaracterization. Someone with enough of a mechanical advantage can smoke the best driver. I could smoke any Nascar driver if they had a stock Pinto and I had a stock brand new GT500. The mechanical differences don't need to be that great either, to allow a lesser driver to win over a better driver. That is the whole pupose behind the restrictions on racing cars; to keep the playing field somewhat level, mechanically.
