latley, my car has been sputtering under heavy accelration, feels like the car isnt sucking any air, i got the modded airbox, and when i punched it the thing would gorlw after 4k rpm. now my car seems so :q:q:q:qing slow. feels like it dosnt wanna move, kinda feels like someone put a plastic bag over my intake. i switched to a diff brand of gas (93 octande) and it still does it, could it be the mass air flor sensor? im, also in need of as tune up 91k miles

thanks in advanced for your help, when ever i got a question u guys always got the right answer and ave me a :q:q:q:q load of money.

Sounds like you have some debris on the MAF fillaments. The MAF is between the intake tube and the air filter box. If you have a K&N filter, some oil may have been sucked onto the MAF wires which can bugger your car. You can use a torx screwdriver and remove the MAF sensor from the MAF housing. Spray some electronics cleaner onto a q-tip and gently (GENTLY!) remove any gunk from the wires on the sensor. Or, you can gently spray the electronics cleaner on the wires and let them dry out.

ok so is this it, the little plactic peice that hangs down?

right - that is it.

kinda unusual for it to go bad - but like Mike says - if you have a K&N type filter getting oil on it is certainly a possibility.

Mines been doing the same thing lately, I have the intake and magna flow exhaust. I will be in fourth gear cruising along and punch it and it takes like a big intake of air and then takes off, kinda like it building up fuel or pressure then takes off. The other day I got into the throttle big time in first gear then shifted to second and the f'ing thing died!!!! it hasn't done it since, I thought I shifted wrong but it was in second, and besides I never shift wrong.....:D Any ideas I have 82k

Before you take things apart just unplug the MAS electrical connector while the car is running and see if it runs better without the MAS plugged in. Don't worry, it is safe to do this due to the computers backup speed density configuration. That will tell you right then and there that it IS or IS NOT a MAS problem instead of taking things apart and messing with them only to find out that it is something totally different like your fuel pump. Just a way to save you time and guesswork. ;)

stay with the basics - if it's running good except when you punch it - start with the fuel system - filter, pump, ...etc

Wouldn't that trigger dummy light though?? I will have them check it when I take it to get my service done for 85k

nope - a dirty fuel filter can flow good enough for regular driving - but can't react quickly to increases in flow.

since this problem is popping up for people now that the weather is getting nice....are you sure that your not just getting heat soaked? does it happen after sitting at idle for a while in the bright sun?

Nah it's only like 65-72 degrees right now in San Diego....It happens in the morning during the day and at night...I am gonna check the fuel pump and filter first......

I didn't mean to hijack your thread slow 5spd....But seems we are having a similiar problem...

My guess is that unmetered air is getting by the MAF. Check all the clamps along the intake track and make sure they are sealed and tight. Also check the valve cover hoses that conntect to the intake and make sure they are secure.

well, i figured out the problem, had nothing to do with the maf, although i did clean it. the problem was the spark plugs, completly burnt out, gone and one was really oily. i bought 6 autolite platniums for 17$, only could replace the three on the dirvers side. i cant get the intaker maniflold apart. im gonna bring it to my mechanic so he can do the rest, when he puts my hi flow cats on. so far its 100 % better cant wait to do the rest. thanks for the help guys!

I tried that. Sith my 2003 lincoln LS V8 Unplugging the MAF sensor to see if it was the issue with my acceleration and just wasn't throwing a code... It started fine but couldn't drive it to test the acceleration cause the car went straight into pimp mode without the MAF connected... Is that normal for the 2003 ls v8 to do or is it supposed to run 9ff of a pre saved tune to compensate ad some issue thats not throwing a code is going on somewhere?
