I have a 2000 LS, I heard that a mass air meter off of an 02 or 03 LS is bigger, does anybody know for sure?

03 might be bigger since they redesigned the whole intake. may not matter because I don't think it would fit an '00.

why?

we've never been able to push past the stock MAF yet, and you would have to potentially re-tune the PCM - and how would you do that?

I have a SCT tuner. Isnt larger throttle body and mass air better? Works on Mustangs.

You didn't mention larger throttle body in your first post.

The 03+ MAF is built into the stock airbox - not a separate unit like on the pre-03s.

The reason I asked about the tuning - I have not seen the end-user adjust ability for the MAF in the XCal - but I am assuming it will ask for commonly used aftermarket sizes - which may not work for you.

You could still go to a SCT dealer with an in-house dyno and tune it that way.

ummm yea i would stick with the one from an 00 the one i had on previously was from an 02 or 03 i cant quite remember but it made the car run like :q:q:q:q. as soon as i changed it .. it ran fine

You could run a bigger mas air meter but you would have to tune for it. The MAS transfer would have to be modified so that the voltage curve would coincide with the poundage of injectors your running. The reason the one MAS swap siddymae performed didn't work is because I am pretty sure that the LS's went to a bigger size injectors for a while or something. Which meant that the transfer didn't coincide with the injector poundage.

With the 00-02's you can run an aftermarket MAS and have your dealer import the .csv file for it in the Advantage tuning software.

The 03+'s will either have to go with the 95 mm cast aluminum slot-in MAS housing for the 05+ Mustangs (slot-in is the type of MAS meter the 03+ LS's have) or fab an adapted piece that fits to a regular MAS housing and lets the slot-in element bolt up and seal to it. Not too hard actually. It would be a great way for anyone aspiring to go with FI (so like no one) to be able to install a bigger MAS. Being that your using the same MAS element you would not have to redo the MAS transfer. Just make sure you dont place the adapted sensor right after any bends as it will throw meter accuracy off.

Either way these all have limited applications being that FI is not normal for these cars. These bigger MAS's aren't really neccessary at the power/airflow levels we are all at. Until maybe Quik starts to offer a roots kit for the 00-02.
