Whats up guys im thinking about painting my 96 MARKVIII Matte Black and not sure if it will look good can anyone wit pictures of a matte or satin black Mark8 post pics on thread i know i dont have to ask for opinions:D but they will be appreciated.

Zmt325 I believe is his name he either has or is planning to do his some form of matte or satin black.

There are a couple pics floating around.

I guess I'm just old and cranky. I've never understood the appeal of satin or flat black cars of any kind. It looks half done to me. As in, "nice primer assh*le, now finish the job!" But to each his own.

There's a guy in Miami that painted his 97 matte black and installed Lambo doors and 22's. The doors and the wheels are stupid but the paint looks pretty good. Maybe Elliot has a pic of it he can post. I would never do it to my car but I am old and I agree with Marcus. It looks like they ran out of money to paint it.

Mine's like half matte black and half gloss black. In other words, the clear-coat's shot.

The problem with satin finnishes... well couple problems. They are hard to lay down even and flat. That and you have to keep the car clean all the time. Bugs will stain it.

Thanks guys I love the Continental but the Marks are a little hard to look at. I think if better quality materials were used on the Marks they would look alot better oh cowl hoods im not a fan of

I had considered painting my 93 flat black because my paint looks like hell, and was going to do some pinstriping and scallops, and buy 16" salt flat moon caps but figured heck, if I am going to put that much effort in it... why not paint it gloss, make it nice and throw some sweet wheels on it.

yep those were my plans

hey man here is the only first gen flat black pic i have found

I have slowly been collecting my supplies to paint my car myself, as i got a bit of a run around when attempting to get my car painted for under $1000.

whilst trying to envision a nice satin black paint job i ran across a few pics of other cars painted satin black. keep in mind there is a difference in flat and satin.

then I ran across a satin grey metallic. the metallic is going to be fairly difficult to lay on the car with no tiger stripes. but i want it, and i am stubborn. paint materials will be about 400 with flatten-er, flex, base, clear, hardener and naphtha.

I have still yet to see a satin black mark done right, would love to see it. i could have done it by now but i am cheap and have been distracted by ac repair tools, addco rear bar, gears and a cobra intake. give me a month or two and you will see a satin grey mark.

sorry so long winded

Those are all $100k+ cars. That kind of car can pull it off. Everybody knows it's not primer. I don't love the look, but it can work on that kind of car. Not a few thousand dollar at best Mark VIII. It will look like you couldn't afford to get it painted properly.

Welcome to the old and cranky club.
I agree I hate the whole rat rod scene.

part of the problem is that too many of the flat or satin paint jobs on less expensive cars is just done poorly and insufficiently, contrasted with the exotic cars that have excellent satin paint jobs.
