Michelen Tweel first airless tire.

I recall seeing that one a couple years back in Popular Science. I still have yet to see any in actual production. I will admit it has great potential, it also has some obvious drawbacks. It will be a nightmare to keep clean, if you think brake dust is difficult to get out of the cracks of your "rims" this thing is going to be fun. What about offroad uses, can you imagine how much mud these things will fling if any gets up in there.
Would it really be that hard to keep the technology but put a sidewall on that thing? It doesn't even have to be functional, just something to make it look nicer.

i imagine thats what the overall plan would be. they probably just have sidewall-less to prove/show how it works. it would have to have something, get anything stuck in there and it would vibrate like hell

fugly.
Does anyone remember the wheel/tire combo that was acutally 2 tires per wheel? It looked like but it wasnt, to motorcycle tires side by side on each wheel.

Yea, that's been around since like 02. I guess they gave up on it.

I do recall the dual tire deal quite some time ago, it was back when there was a huge 'thing' for the central water channel ie wet performance tire. It just never took off even though it looked promising.

This non pneumatic tire thing should have had the bugs ironed out of it by now, this has been under development for long enough.....

i think the hardest part would be fitting it to the wheel, it would need to fit tight. so id imagine that either a special mounting machine would also be needed ($$$$) or a 3 piece rim, also pricey for the average tire shopper. "instead of just tires, now i need tires AND wheels?" that aint gonna fly

I can just see what will happen... cheap people will get them and you will see a car running down the road with the inner part exposed because they are so worn down!
