Several media sources say that Miers stepping down is a Bush defeat and yet another blow to the Bush administration. As far as I can tell, it seems like the "radical right of the Republican party" killed the nomination. What do you think?

I think BuSh threw her to the dogs to make his next appointment a shoe-in. I think he's in for a fight if he picks a candidate that's too far right.

This appointment may be the issue that tears this country apart.

What happened to the poll numbers? Oh yeah, polls don't matter to GWB. He just follows his mandate without regard for what the people want. Shouldn't he be listening to the citizens of this country?

Is it a defeat. I don't think so. Is it humiliating, sure.

Harriet is a smart person and she can read. Plus she talks to people. Bush picked the wrong candidate. There you go. Bush did something wrong and Miers did the right thing.

Finally. Let's have the argument. This country needs it. Time to take off the gloves.

He did listen. He listened to his base. The people that got him elected. The people he is responsible to.

Just watch, smart as a fox.

It was a bad choice. The vetting process they used needs to be looked at. Fooled me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. There won't be twice. We'll get want we want.

She should never have been nominated anyway, she had no Judicial experience
what so ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Judicial experience isnt what concerned me- lack of constitutional knowlege and experience worried me - not to mention, GW's patronage BS -- he has to stop appointing his friends to everything. THey're mostly unqualified.

Joey, I love ya man!! Almost everything you post now, I agree with you!!!

Are you a 'Joe Lieberman' type Democrat?

My opinion is that the conservative base raised such an outcry that Miers intelligently saw this as an opportunity for Bush to try again, and pulled herself out. I'll bet she saw what happened to Priscilla Owen and Janice Rogers Brown and decided it wasn't worth it.

Now Bush has a real opportunity to put a Constitutionalist in there. I'll bet he gets it right this time.

Short list: Michael Luttig, Janice Rogers Brown, Priscilla Owen, Miguel Estrada, Edith Clement. All good choices.
