Milton Friedman in Defense Of Capitalism

what is he talking about "running capitalism on greed", you look at the countries run by dictators, big government where the heads of the government are living like kings and the people are picking through the garbage to find scraps of food to feed their families. I think that's more greedy than people wanting to find their own path in life and making their own decisions about how they should run their lives. Why do you think millions of immigrants have risked their lives, left their families, and everything they had behind to come to the U.S. It sure as hell wasn't to get hand out by the government, or to stand in food lines waiting for a rationed meal, or to pool all their money to give to some one else. It was to work hard and to make a name for your self

Greed for power is more dangerous than greed for money and has shed far more blood in the process

Quite right.

....Friedman is absolutely brilliant....

And, to say something positive about Donahue, a man I couldn't disagree with more.
There is something to be said for his long format talk show where he'd actually let a guest expand on a thought like that. Shows with that kind of pacing are non-existent today.

It should also be noted that Donahue wasn't ALWAYS that gracious or respectful with a guest. Especially towards the end of his show, Donahue certainly wasn't above ambushing or stepping all over his guests. But there are many fascinating old interviews from his show with intellectuals like Milton Friedman, or Ayn Rand.

I wonder if even Donahue would be foolish enough to try and step all over an intellectual heavyweight like Friedman.
