Howdy,

ran across a decently upgraded but blown headgasket '89 Thunderbird SC... what about putting in the Mk VIII engine with a Cobra 6-spd?

Thanks,

My take; after all of the aggravation, work, wiring, time, modifcations, stress, and money you will spend shoving the 4.6L 4V engine under the hood of what is pretty much a Mark VIII, you might as well have just bought the damn Mark VIII.

And as for the 6-speed, that's a whole notha' thread!

They're going to blend the 32valve AND the six speed, or just swap the engine?

Well I was thinking more along the lines of just the motor swap with the stock 5-spd but I doubt that it would last long behind a stock Mk VIII DOHC 4.6L, so the Cobra 6-spd was a likely next step. I would bet you'd have to use a Cobra ECM with the stick.
