alright guys. so i took my car to the track all day. I ran my mk8 more times than i can count. first i would like to start off with the mod'ed air box (getto drilling a bunch of holes in the intake box). starting with this i have the mod'ed air box, and my first 3 runs. 10.425,10.4295, and 10.512. when i saw my times i was a little pissed. So many people have done this mod, and said they liked it (I thought for sure the mod would help). K after this i had pulled the air box out and got the ole duck tape out. I then duck taped the holes close and installed the airbox. ran the car 3 times 10.121, 10.129. 10.108. much better!!! K now i talked to a few people at the track about the air box. Because of the 30 little holes it causes way... way... to much turbulance. i left the duck tape on the air box, and drilled 1- single 4'in hole in the center of the air box. ran the car 3 more times. 10.026, 10.011, and my best and last run with the air box 9.912. so the mod'ed air box theory :bsflag: k now about the Exhaust :) most people have been asking alot of questions about this, and im glad to be able to answer it. I got some info from a person here on the forms page about my 50 series flow masters. i did exactly what he told me to do... I ripped those SOB's off and trashed em... all my times list above are with the single exhaust and flows. So this morning i left the track around 11:00, and went back to the exhaust shop, and had all the single exhaust taken out and the flows removed. I had the shop install a True Dual 2.5in with magnaflows (no x-pipe installed). too him around 2 1/2 hours start to finish. So :) i went back to the track, and ran the car yes... another 3 times with my new exhaust 10.101. 9.989, 9.901. So i spent 350.00 bucks on having the dual exhaust done to my car, and it really didnt do Crap for the car... after running to car with the new exhaust i went back home to get my high flow cats that i was originally gonna put on my 89 mustang (that i posted pics of last week). I had the exhaust shop right before they closed cut out my old cats, and install the high flow cats that were for my stang. after dinner i roll back to the track and ran my mk8. first run 9.891, 9.821, 3rd run 9.791. so with saying all of this. i personally would not spend the money on a expensive exhaust system unless you just want the sound. and if your doing it for performance. don't even bother Effin with the exhaust unless you are gonna chage out the cats. exhaust theory :bsflag: i plan to take my mk8 to the track next thursday on test and tune day. I am working on converting my data cable on my mustang to work on my mk8 so i can run the laptop and really give everyone exactly what the hell is going on with this mods, and what works, and what doesn't. BTW next week... is gonna be the_1calledgod's myth buster on the spark plug theory. i have about 300.00 put back for this one. im going to buy all the recomended spark plugs i have seen on here follow by those Ridiculas priced wires. Ok by everyone reading this i am not shooting anyones opion, or telling anyone that there mods are crappy or are completly pointless, im simply letting everyone know how my 94 mk8 with 39k miles on it responded to these mods. have a great night. and I love this site.

So what mods do you have?
I now have. Mod'ed air box with 1- 4'in hole, and removed air silencer, true dual 2.5in exhaust with magnaflow, and high flow cats. Im putting Mercon V, and new filter with tranny cooler. Sometime next week im going to start off with the Autolite spark plugs, with wires.

The autolite's are the best for the mark I have a 93 and have tryed them all at one point and the autolite platnuim is the best

wow , you could have searched my posts and came up with the same results you found
the exhaust picked up 1 mph in the 1/4 mile for me with no et difference
i haven't noticed any difference with anything i do to the air cleaner area including removing it completely
suprisingly a shift kit and 4.11 gears did nothing either , but i have yet to run it in cool weather with the gears , i may go to atco tonight and try it again
so far the only change i am pleased with is the nitrous 14.60 to a 12.80 with a 150 shot i haven't ran it at the track with the gears and nitrous but it feels fast , spins like a b**** though
i use ar103 plugs , that seemed to help but it may just be because it needed a tune up at the time

uhhhh, did you get dual exhuast w/o a balance tube, :slam

you are losing power w/o a balance tube trust me and had duals then a couple days later got an h pipe and it was noticeable diff in power

one more thing if gears did nothing to your et and either did exhaust maybe somethings wronge with your car, I had a problem with something and with gears and exhaust I was running 14.8s now im running 14.3s 14.4 with everything the same

hey there :), yea there is a small 2.5 H-pipe in my exhaust system :) forgot to add that. wow im kinda disapointed that the gear mod doesn't really do sh-i-t huh? I have a ATI pro charger just sitting in my garage doing nothing.... do you guys thing i should make a mounting bracket and just say fu-c-k it and just make my lincoln blow???? Because if im reading everything right, and everyone here is spending that kinda of money and not getting crap out of there mods i think i might as well just combined all the money for all those mods and just supercharge my mk8, and spend the money to dyno tune it. Or would you guys recomend just putting Nitrous on it? and what size shot is safe for this car?? and be honest because would hate to be driving down Hwy 30 and shoot Nos, and blow a head off and throw it across 4 lanes of traffic :Bang :V :Beer :feedback

don't forget - on the 1/8 mile, you really aren't running your car ath te speeds / rpms where changes to engine breathing are going to make their most impact, due to the nature of the engine. I would take it to the 1/4 and to the highway before you make the judgements you have made. When I did the airbox mod I picked up 3 mpg.

First of all make sure your running the car with the OD and TC off. This is good for 1-2 tenths or better, also make damn sure you DO NOT launch this car leaning on the converter, just flash it, takes practice to balance heating the tires vs not overheating them and getting a decent spin free launch but that too is worht a tenth or better itself. You also have to make REALLY sure you have an up to par fuel pump and a NEW fuel filter, especially if your over 75k.

1/8 mile is no way to judge this car, especially when it really shines on the top end.

I can tell you with 100% fact that the exhaust is worth 1-3 tenths. Ken Kropac who MANY people know here went from a dead stock 14.60 to a 14.33 from JUST EXHAUST with a twin xx pipe and nothing more like many others have too.

Spark plugs as always I have touted the awesome performance of the dirt cheap Autolite 764 coppes gapped at .048.

Wires I will and always will stand by the Nologys again simply becuse they are only $100.00 more then the MSD wires and they have a lifetime warranty while producing rwhp, again even if it was ONE hp its better then NONE, plus they fire off a 100,000 watt spark, thats 40,000 watts stronger the MSD's with a MSD DIS4 box!

I have proven our chip several times to be worth 1-2 tenths, Walt and I several times (trying to work out bugs) removed the chip and ran it then reinstalled it and geined 1.5 tenths, same with the maf kit, we have seen on the same day 1-2 tenths difference, with and without.

i'd like to find out for myself :waving:

i agree with launching it at an idle and have everything off , the gears i'm still trying to wait till the weather gets more favorable to make a real decission on
my exhast is 2.5'' with an x , but it still has the stock mufflers on it , i refuse to make it loud , it lost low end and picked up top end
in an 1/8 mile you would never notice it

I ran a 9.808 at 74.03 with the airbox drilled and nothing else, so it did nothing to hurt my time.

What MPH were you trapping on your runs in the 1/8th mile. A gain in power should correlate with a gain in MPH. You may have gained more power but got a worse launch thus getting the same ET. ET is not a good way to measure horsepower gains, you have to look at the MPH. Secondly, I have dropped the ET of my car by 7 tenths and gained 4mph with simple bolt on modifications and no gears or torque converter. Another thing to think about is the Mark VIII is simply not that quick in the 1/8th mile even modded. In the back half of the track is where it starts pulling hard compared to cars with similar performance.

i will remeber the lauch method for sure!!! i use to have a 99 T/A... the car would not launch unless it was at idle. so same for these cars to?! good to know.. ok today i had all royal purple to all my fluids, and replaced the tranny filter. a friend of mine did all royal purple, and the tranny filter for 31.00 :wrench. Im OMW to go get the spark plugs Autolite copper 764 .048, I would like to say the car drives totally different with the royal purple, and the new tranny filter.. the car is ZERO slop in the shifts. i think i might go ahead and pick up a new fuel filter while im out to get plugs... anything else you guys can thin of what i need to get while im at the store? Geno recomended 40 below im gonna pick that up too. thanks for all your help guys. BTW when i ran the 9.791 in the 1/8. that was with the car in 1st gear and holding it at 1600 rpm and the O/D off at the launch. my fastest trap time was 71.8 and my slowest was 70.1. thanks for all the info guys. I also have another question for you guys too. I want to do some more tranny work. is it worth spending the money on a Stall Kit, and how much and what is best, or should i just spend the money and have a T-56 installed?. Oh one more thing.. i can't seem to get my car over 125mph. it gets up there quicker than slipping on dog sh-i-t, but once it hits about 122mph it dies out. thanks

Best 1/8th mile mods for me last year were drag radials and shift kit. Hands down. :steering 'Course, I already had gears and exhaust.

my 94 mk8 has 39k miles. i got the new autolites today, and a few other things. im not gonna waste the money on drag radials. on the track i race on the car won't spin the tires to save its life. i'll go ahead and buy a new fuel pump even though i have 39k miles. i have a post of my car and info on here geno. suprised you haven't seen it yet. I think im just gonna do a 100 shot on it and call it good. this is only a daily driver and these cars will never be fast no matter what you do to them. thanks for the info.

WOW never be fast???????? Ive topped my 93 out at 160 before topend is its better quality bar none

If changing the fuel pump, why not throw in a 255 Walbro and a adjustable fuel pressure regulator and bump up that fuel pressure a bit.

I would recommend a Baumann shift kit as well. No trans slipping or grinding into gear anymore, nice Hard, quick shifts.

:slam , don't give up so easy
i've been hitting mine with 150 shot all year (daily driven )with no problems , even running 86 octane regular gas
i just got the parts to put a second stage on it :Beer
you will like the bottle , 100 shot will drop at least a second

The drag radials took about 1/10th off my sixty foot times. The shift kit kicks ass. Used to be in a tight race(say with a Mustang GT), when the car shifted, I could see the opponent pull ahead. Since the Baumann shift kit set on level 5, no more losing ground at the shift points. :steering
