HELP!

I am trying to figure out how to upgrade the system in my new 2001 LS. I have the stereo that is tape only and 4 door speakers(that i know of). I noticed there are 2 cutouts in the trunk for speakers. If I were to use the stock headunit and amp the speakers, should I just do the 4 or should I put speakers in the trunk? What sizes are the door speakers and is it even nessesary to upgrade them if amped? The LM dealer I just bought the car from is going to install my own 6 disc cd changer for free but I have to schedule it soon. Do i need a certain type or brand changer or will any work?

Chris - I just replied to your PM.

Wow, ur lucky im around.
1. forget getting the 6 cd changer
2. you will get a sub and an amp in the trunk.
3. you will buy an after marker reciever(cd player)

Subwoofer: 1 15 inch acendant audio avalanche. $250
amplifier: Jbl bp 1200.1 $220
enclousure(box for sub): 3.5 cubic feet tuned to 25 hz $20
Components: CDT 6.5's $120
reciever(CD player): pioneer in dash $140

Total: $ 730 for a a sick system( good stuff)
Tried to make it as simple as possible.

1) Find a good cd/mp3 player for the dash
2) Replace your (4) 6x8 door speakers with Alpine or Polk makes a sweet set also.
3) Dump a single 10" sub in a enclosed selled box with about 300-400 watt amp behind it and you will have a bitching sound system.

Alpine is what I sponser but everyone has there own style and taste. I personally just wanted a lil more bass in the back and no "you can hear me 3 blocks away sound system". To each his own, good luck!

Where are the stock subs for the LSs that came with them? If i were to install a sub, I wouls not want to use much trunk space. I dont need audiobahn bass. Just bass to make all types of music sound good

Chris

the stock subs were pretty crappy. They were located in a plastic deck that installed under the rear deck (behind the rear seats under the third brakke light).

Quik, I kinda halfway looked for my subs but I didn't see anything. I'm just wondering if I even have them or not. I'm positive I have the center console speakers w/ the 6 disc alpine and I was under the impression that the subs were part of the package. Are they actually located in the trunk area? Thanks in advance

they should be part of that package. they are on either side of the third brake light - under the material. if you flod your rear seats down you should see a 5" plastic shelf that has the amp and the 2 subs right underneath the rear deck.

i have the same deal..i have a 2001 with the alpine 6 disc and i am unable to find my subs....i have checked around the 3rd taillamp and still cant find them...is this just me?????????? cause i definately had some subs running when i had my alpine deck in...now that i replaced it i can tell its not nearly as loud

Well I'm going to check again if this rain will ever let up. I'm sure this has probably been covered but I'll ask anyway. Is it possible to upgrade the subs and amp but leave them in the stock locations? I would like more low end oomph but I want to keep the stock appearance. Thanks again

I know that at least the 01V8 Sport do not have the rear deck subs in the back. I was told that this was not an option for the sport package.

Well that makes sense because I have an 02 V8 sport. If it turns out I don't have them would it be feasible to maybe find the rear deck from another car and install it in mine. Would the improvement in sound be worthwhile?

But if you have console speaker (you mentioned above) then I believe that was part of 'Audiophile' package that included subs. Did you have the 3.5" console speakers on each front side of the lower center console.

btw - I do not believe you would be happy with adding the stock rear subs.... for the money.

Yeah I'm sure I have the console speakers. I even stuck my head up to them to make sure. I guess I'll look again and see if I see the subs. Thanks again for the input

Yeah, I have the console speeakers and 6 disk in-dash receiver and it did not have the rear subs. But, like Quik said, you don't want them anyway. They aren't that great.
You probably do have the harness for the sub and amp in the trunk, but don't use it -- the pre-outs are not hooked up and the remote does not have enough voltage for aftermarket subs. If you want to keep your receiver, the best thing to do is run a new remote and preamp outs down the middle of the car to an aftermarket sub and amp.

I believe there is a 'speaker self-test' - push and hold presets #3 and #6 at the same time. The unit enters into a speaker test mode - sending noise to each speaker so you can find them (or hear if they are blown).

While the test is running - hit the other presets for more tests - IIRC the 'tune' button will cycle through.

Does this work with all models? This sounds WAY too much like fun...

Hey everyone. I checked last night and I do have the subs. I'm going to check out that self test. I agree it sure does sound like fun.
