Sounds like coils to me. Others have had similar problems, and you can find many threads on the topic of coils. You may want to look at those threads and see if the symptoms you're having are similar to those, and what the fixes were. IIRC, replacing coils is fairly easy, but the parts can get expensive, especially if you replace multiple coils.

I agree sounds like coils .....You may wanna pull the easy ones and check the plugs to see if the soked in oil or fauled out

once the car heats up the gasket is expanding and the hot oil is leaking through, Id check there first

Kinda a dumb question but do you notice any lights coming on (do you have a display in your) is there any smoke or funny smell under the hood after it warms up?

Keep us up to date on it

I'm going with fuel pumps on this one. Coils misfiring is a very distinct feel, a good sharp jerk most of the time as the cylinder misfires. What you're describing sounds to me more like a fuel pressure issue, especially with the car not being able to accelerate over 10-20 MPH after it was warmed.

I picked the car back up from the tranny shop and now they say its something with the motor. ( i dobut it, i just think they just don't want to replace anything expensive) dorve it home and I dorve the car to work today about 15 miles away. got there just not the normal ride much more jerky. Im going to check the coils tommorrow and no i dont have any lights on the dashboard.

what kind of noise? how did it sound like? did you buy it used or new? how many times have you gotten service from that shop? could be alot of things. is your check engine light on? have you tried getting dtc codes from your car? if you don't trust the shop, don't take their word for it. what did the shop do to the car anyway?

your best bet is to get the codes (if it shows any). if not, you need to get it diagnosed, either from a lincoln dealer or a trustworthy shop. you may just need to get your cpu reprogrammed, but really can't tell you.

Just for testings sake, go to your local auto parts store and spend $40 on an Actron Fuel Pressure Gauge. Hook it up to your schraeder valve and then lay the gauge face down on the windshield and close the hood. Take the car for a drive long enough to get into the troublesome area and watch the pressure gauge as you have your problems and see what your pressure does. It could explain a lot, or nothing, but at least you'd have an idea and either found or ruled out the problem.

The things that I know of that can go wrong with the tranny are the valve body and solenoid packs. Halfshafts go bad in the rear. 90% of the time with the motor it's gotta be the coils, see if they can seal the valve cover gaskets for you.

I just removed the valve cover and noticed oil.. took out one boot i guess its called and it was covered in oil. ive only removed one so far but can tell more are oiled. Now in this case what needs to be replaced? plugs, and boots for the oiled ones and one more question.. where are the coills and what do they look like?
