Motor Mounts

The ones that MN12performance sold would work, but he is shutting down. He IS giving his stuff to Supercoupe Performance to sell, so they should work. They are the only place that I know of to get them.
 
Be careful....

I can tell you as an engineer and from personal experience you are playing with fire installing solids - :(

1. Mounts are one of the most engineered systems in the car - EVERYTHING downstream in the powertrain is designed to take X amount of load, with X being controlled by the amount of flex in those mounts. You risk HUGE breakage with solids.

2. NVH goes to hell (noise/vibration/harshness) with solid mounts

3. Your resale value (even if you choose to tolerate the vibration) will go away. Period. I switched to solid mounts in my Mercedes SL racecar and it felt like a 1930 model A at idle.

Don't do it man - get an engineered performance mount or put fresh correct mounts in with a "cheater" chain to guard against breakage, but don't mess up your Lincoln....

The motor will be putting out a bit more torque than stock.

I ageee, solid motor mounts are a pain, but that's the only thing I can think of.

What is this Cheater chain you speak of? I realize it's a chain that will prolly mount/weld to the K member, but I don't see how i would mount it.

Any help would be apreciated.

If you are fearing tearing up the mounts, realize that they have an internal mechanism to prevent breakaway in the event the mount tears or breaks so that isn't a huge issue.

A "cheater" chain gives you the benefit of a solid mount when accelerating hard, and you mount it on the left side virtually on the existing mount points, and when that mount flexes beyond a certain point it comes up against the chain - preventing excessive flex and transferring 100% of torque/power into the drivetrain.

They are simple enough to engineer - the hard part is having it short enough to matter but long enough not to transfer noise/vibration under normal acceleration.

A great compromise is a performance mount using a harder urethane - I imagine that a Mustang performmance shop could make a set for you without too much $$$$
 
We made solid when Me and my friends droped a 302 in a 63' fairlane 500 , we burned all the rubber off mounts and cut holds in all the mounts the ones from the 302 and the ones from the car . then bolted them to each other .

the front of the car would swist clock wise when I jumped on it.

it was not good. High Performance is great but you have to live with it!.

I've two solid Supercoupe mounts sitting on the shelf. I ordered 4 of them when I had my SC.

But I doubt I'll go solid after some of these more knowledgeable (than I) guys suggested otherwise.

I will look into the torque chain thing.

Solid RUBBER is not SOLID SOLID. STEEL is SOLID. Rubber is flexible and won't necessarily imply all the sacrifices we discussed. Anybody have any experience with them?
