MPG question V8 vs. V6

Straight highway: 26+
Around town: (wife driving, stop/go/stop/go) 17-18
2004 LS8 sport

During the winter my highway mileage was averaging 25 - 26 at ~75 mph
The last three tank fulls have been 27, 28 and 27. Still averaging ~75 but slightly more stop and go since I'm not skiing now.

V6 with 5 speed manual

2001 LS V8 city 16.8- 17.5mpg

Highway is around 25-26.8 mpg I guess I have a heavy foot !

I haven't taken a long steady trip yet but my 2004 LSV8 gets about 14mpg in hard stop and go short trip driving, essentially the car isn't really warmed up by the time I get to work.

The few times where I got a stretch of even road I did see the computer saying I got as high as 26mpg, but I think on average at 70mph and smooth level road I get more like 24.

Some time later this summer I should get a shot at a nice long steady drive andf then should be able to get a good figure.

I just bought an 05 w/V6 in it, and am getting 20mpg around town. no highway yet. the car only has 900 miles on it, so hopefully this will improve.

As an aside, I own a C5 corvette that gets me 33mpg on the highway going 75-80mph with the A/C running, and 27mpg at 120mph with the cruise on.

Hi,
I'd be interested to know what kind of mpg LS V8s really get, especially on 03-05 models? And V6s?
Thanks.

Just returned yesterday from a 2450 Mi. trip. 1800 Mi on interstate and remainder on secondary highways and city driving. Interstate @ 70 MPH average including gas and food stops. Overall fuel mileage was 25.2 as I pulled into the Garage. Went as high as 26.1 and as low as 13.5 during the trip. LSE V-8
