Car/year? 96 and older Mark I can tell you about.

Philips screw driver.
Torx… I think a #15 or maybe a #20
Something with a point (metal)

Remove key switch (this done by taking you metal point tool and looking under the switch you will see a hole with a pin, insert point and turn key to “ON” pull switch out leave the key in and don’t turn)

Remove covers from steering wheel.

Now you can see the switch, remove both torx screws and unplug the switch.

All done.

To get the key switch back in, just insert back into hole and turn the key to OFF, the switch will now be locked back into place.

what about the air bag any worry of it going bom?

NO... BUT if you are worried that it some how could (I see no way how) take the - battery cable of and wait for about 30 min before you start to work on it.

BUT like I said I see no way on how that could happen, you are no where near the connector or the bag for that matter. IF you can see a "YELLOW" wire once you are in there that is the wire for the bag.

don't i need to pull the steering wheel? i have a 93 mark VIII , i read what you posted it does not sound like i need to pull the steering wheel

I have replied to your PM, but NO you do not have to remove the wheel.

Here is a pic of the switch more or less... Like I said in the PM you can see that the switch hits the side of the wheel NOT under it.

Again like in the PM to you, I think you could be thinking of the old cars like Ford and GM that you had to remove the wheel because the wheel sat ON the switch, that is not the case with our cars and MOST of Fords other cars and trucks.
