about a week and a half ago my sts died on my right in front of my house. it was running fine, then it started slowing down, i put more force on the gas pedal and nothing happened, the rpm's didn't even go up? it rolled and stopped in front of my house. i tried restarting the car but it wouldn't. the engine would turn over and all the interior and exterior lights were still working. but it didn't have enough power to get the engine to start completely.
i got a boost from my step dad and we let it run for a while and then the car ran fine for the next week and a half. until last night. the same thing happened while leaving my buddies house. i had the gas pedal right to the floor and nothing would happen. we tried giving it a boost again, but this time it would start for maybe a second and then die, even while hooked up to the other cars battery.
we ended up pushing it to the side of the road so i oculd figure out what to do with it today. the engine will still turn over but it won't start and wont' stay running.

i had it into the shop about a month and a half ago to have a full engine analysis where they told me there was nothing wrong wiht my engine.

anyone have any ideas what the problem could be, i'm stumped, and i don't feel like paying an arm and a leg to have it towed to the cadillac dealership and then having to cut off my other arm and leg in order to have them look at it and tell me what is wrong. i will then be left limbless to try and figure out how to come up with the money to have the problems fixed.
someone help me please!!!

Im no expert, but since there's no replies, Ill try.. It could be something as simple as a clogged fuel filter (sounds exactly like what's happened in the past with one of my bikes), dirty maf, faulty plugs and/or wires, or an air intake problem. Then again, it could be the ecu malfuctioning- possibly cutting the fuel, etc.. Best of luck to you, keep us updated.

okay. we went tonight to check it out. hooked up booster cables and it started after a few attempts. i drove it home and it was like normal?
i'm taking it in to my uncles shop tomorrow to get them to test the battery.

i took it to the shop. they said it was just the battery connections, they replaced them all, didn't charge me, and sent me on my way, i drove around the block twice, and couldn't get it past 30 km/h, so they took it to their other shop for a full diagnosis. turns out its the fuel pump and filter.

fuel pump was only pushing like about 55% of the fuel it was supposed to be.

its going to cost me 973$
thats a lot of money for a 19 year old with a :q:q:q:qty job. i think i'm going to start selling my body on the side to make some extra cash.

$973--Let's just say 1-grand for a fuel pump replacement sounds unreasonable. I would shop around. Better yet, I would find find out how it's done and do it myself. I would also check to see if any of the following codes are present:

# P0230 - Fuel Pump Relay Control Circuit
# P0231 - Fuel Pump Feedback Circuit Low Voltage
# P0232 - Fuel Pump Feedback Circuit High Voltage
# P0233 - Fuel Pump Secondary Circuit Intermittent

Try to enter Diagnostic Mode as follows:
1. Turn ignition "ON."
2. Depress the "OFF" and "WARMER" buttons on the Climate Control Center (CCC) simultaneously and hold until the segment check appears on the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC).

I would check for codes with both the engine running and not running. To check for codes when engine is not running you will need to make sure the ignition switch is in the "ON" position.

Write down any codes and feel free to post them. I believe this method will work on a '97 model.

the car is at the shop so i can't check codes.

its a big name repair shop. my uncle is the manager at the first shop i went to, and the repairs are being done at a different shop becuase my uncles doesn't have the engine diagnostic systems, etc, etc.
i've had work done by them before, and it was always half the price of the cadillac dealer in town and done well. so i trust them.

i guess we'll see what happens, i'll keep you guys updated. thanks for the imput everyone.

so much for trusting them.

i got the car back 1000$ later with a new fuel pump. everythign was runnign great, and then i noticed a lot of oil under the car. took it back, they quoted my just under 400$ to replace a broken oil cooler line. so i did some research.
called the cadillac dealership, they quoted me over the phone no more than 130$

picked up my car from the first shop, pissed off of course. took it to the dealership. they called me the next afternoon and told me there wasn't even a damaged line, someone had loosened both of the lines at the oil filter.
they charged me $62 for looking at it and replacing 3 L of oil.

my baby is back!!!!!
