When I brake lightly in my 95 continental the abs activates as though i have a wheel that has locked up, but hasn't. The brake pedal pushes back against my foot with choppy pressure and it makes that grinding noise as if the abs pump is cycling the pressure. I checked all the wheel speed sensors and they are fine. Has anyone else had this problem?

is your ABS light on?

I am not sure that is your problem but if you need an ABS pump, I have a known working one that I will sell for $125. They are very very pricey from the dealer.....hope you find the prolblem and let me know if you need the pump

Thanks, but I'm pretty sure my pump is fine. The problem is the pump is running when it shouldn't be.

FWIW: that doesn't sound like it is fine to me.

Anyway, do you have any ABS lights? any message center errors?

If your pump is activating, it is being activated by a sensor triggering it to go on when you push your brake. I would recheck your sensors and the abs hub/spindles to make sure they are all functioning correctly.

No lights or warnings on the dash.

I agree its got to be a wheel sensor or the ring it senses. I will recheck. Does anyone know what the air gap should be between the sensor and the ring?

If I was you I would clean all the sensors and the gear.
