Heading home tonight and now that my car sounds intimidating, I'm getting all kinds of people wanting to race me. Before I had the exhaust work done, I couldn't pay people to race me in my grandpa sounding car :)
Well tonight on the way home I got to race a 99+ Mustang Gt and an old primered out pickup with a huge V8 in it and huge chrome rims on it. I had no problems with the GT, but the truck and I were dead even the whole time. It was pretty cool. We never had a stand still race, because I think I would of had him if we did that, but we raced from like 30mph on, 40mph on, 50mph on etc. All the times we were right next to each other. The really cool thing that made him think "holy crap what's in that thing" is when we punched it at 40mph, when it shifted into 3rd, it scratched a good one and it looked very impressive judging by the look on his face. The only thing bad was that his exhaust was just as loud as mine, so when we both got on it, we drew more attention that I would of like to :), but it was fun nevertheless

that 99 gt should have eaten you alive, you raced it from a stop?
Eaten me alive? Have u been drinking?have u every been to the track? Those mustangs run 14.8 and 14.9 at best stock all day long, and my car is not stock. It's not even something to brag about because I've never thought GT's were fast after leaving them in the dust with both of my t/a's every time.

1999 GT only has 260HP

They also weigh a lot less. have you ever raced one? They are faster than we are in the 1/4, usually high 13's if the driver knows what he is doing. From a roll on the highway we have chance, but a stock mark, from a stop, doesn't.

have I ever been to the track? Yes. My car runs 14.8 at the track. Have you taken your car to the track to get a baseline? I've never seen a 99 GT run over 14.5, most of them are below 14.1 and well drive they run 13.8. I am actually at the track quite often and have a pile of slips sitting beside my pc. I don't mean to be a jerk about it, but it's possible he wasn't really racing. I would believe it on the highway but from a stop, it's not likely. How long / far did you race?
I know your car is not stock, but with only exhaust work done, that's another 15 hp probably at most...
I've raced 05 mustangs as well, and they are also running the same times, and slightly faster, if well driven.

He doesn't say how the race took place. So let him explain that 1st. I have raced a GT from a roll in a Caddy STS and walked right by him. Was the guy driving a stick or auto. What gear was he him. How much of a 'jump; did you get on him. What were the traffic conditions. Lot's of things enter into the equation. Spinning off the line. Reluctance to go all out. Getting caught napping. Have him explain the conditions and then it will be fair to make a judgement.

I agree with Monster...however...a stock 99+ GT manual will take a mark VIII with "plugs and silencer removed", no matter what exhaust you have on it!

Stock 99+ GT's will run 14.20-14.30 at the strip unless the driver has no clue how to drive one.

granted...that isnt saying much for the Mustang but please...a stock mark VIII with rinky-dink mods will not pull a stock Mustang GT 5-speed if the Mustang driver knows how to drive, or if he even knows it was a race.

Oh, and I can say "rinky dink" because I had the same mods...still do, less the exhaust, and the addition of a 98+ spec JMOD' tranny with Mach 1 TC.

I've run quite a few Mustang GT's at the track...they have ugly tail lights. The last one I saw run a 14.90 missed third gear...plain and simple.

i wasn't trying to be a punk about it, I am sorry if I came off that way. I too am curious about the conditions of the race.

What I object to is the keyboard racing and posting supposed numbers as to the winner. On the street anything can happen. Maybe the guy was floating along in 4th gear and this grandpa car comes rolling alongside loud and proud and they make eye contact and the Mark guy is off. Meantime Mr. Mustang is frantically trying to find a taller gear and by the time he makes the shift, the game is over. Anything can happen. I raced a Cadillac EXT SUV truck thingy and before I knew I was racing he was in full gallup. By the time a stepped on it I was going around 38 mph so I missed the 1st gear downshift and was stuck with a slow crawling tach out of 2nd gear. So I wasn't even in the 'power' range of the motor. We wound up running side by side. I'm sure he saw it as a win. In my case, before I knew I was racing, the fate of the race was already decided because of the 'stats' of the race. mph, gear selection and timing were out of favor for me and gave him the advantage. So let's race cars, not keyboards.

that's true, but i wouldnt call that a real race, and I wouldnt' say I had "beaten" that car....I would only claim victory in a fair situation where both drivers knew that a race was in progress :p And like you said, I would be specific about the circumstances. I've beaten a 350Z on the highway, up past 120 mph, but on the strip, they murder me.

You guys have bounced off the answer a few times.
You guys keep rattling off times of 5 speen GTs He probably raced an auto and I think we have a very good chance of beating autos.

You right there Chris. BTW, nice to see you back on the board. We need to wait for Sho89mtx to get back to us with further details. All I know is sometimes you think you are racing when your not and sometimes you didn't think of racing when you should have been.

wow, either u guys have seen some crazy fast stock mustang gt's or u guys are lying because when I had my t/a's I went to the track all the time and the fastest GT i ever saw had 4.10's, chip, full exhaust, pretty much every mod you can think of and he ran a best of 13.9 and I ran a 13.6 in my Stock LS1 t/a and beat him. I swear to god that I have never seen a stock GT get anywhere close to the times you have metioned. Maybe because Oklhaoma is a lot hotter that makes the times slower or something, but most of the kids driving them are running 15's that can't drive it very well, and 14.7 or 14.8 was the best time I ever saw a stock GT run. It wasn't from a stop, the races were from a roll and he had a 5-speed and didn't miss a gear and I pulled him by about 1/2 car length with no problem at any speed. I really wasn't that impressed with myself at all because I've always thought GT's were slow after demolishing them and I mean DEMOLISHING them in my t/a's. I mean I raced a 96 cobra in my LT1 t/a(Which was the slower of my t/a's)and it wasn't even close, I had him by about 4 car length before we were at 110mph. There's a guy with a mark VIII that raced me in my LS1 t/a before I bought my Mark VIII and I have no idea what he had done to it, but I only pulled him by maybe 1 car length from a stop to 100mp, ever since then I was very impressed with Mark VIII's. Geno said he's seen stock Mark VIII's(esepcially Gen1's)run low 14's stock, so why would A stock GT spank me?

a stock mark 8 will not outrun a stock 99 gt in the 1/4......if you find a mark that can run a low 14, then you could easily find a mustang running 13's stock. but there's no real point in arguing about this, so congrats on the win. :L

ever since i got my car i get charged up all the time... :Beer but i dont like to race thou........maybe cause its not a lincoln.......i kinda miss the linc i might get another one......

yea...no sense arguing...nice race. Congrats.

I guess only Mustang GT drivers around here can run faster than a 14.5 :)

anyway, if you're ever out in calif, come on out to Infineon raceway...I'll show you what a stock Mustang GT 5-speed can do.

Oh, and Monster...I wasnt "keyboard racing"...I was disputing the 1/4 mile times he was posting for STOCK Mustang GT.s.

and I have numerous examples of these FACTS.

Not pertaining to what vehicle HE raced, but in response to HIS comment about 1999 Mustang GT 1/4 mile times.

No, I know you're not. I'm just saying most street races aren't run 'from the tree' so anything can happen and usually does. I don't like it when guys 'kills' are ripped on because supposedly one car's track times are faster, blah blah. A half second advantage in the 1/4 mile is gone in an instant on the street.
