Hey guys, just wanted to tell everyone about my experience with Summit Racing ignition coils. I had a coil go out at around 162,000 miles, literally right after I got my car. I replaced it and all spark plugs with genuine Motorcraft parts. 2 coils had been replaced by the previous owner. I had another coil go bad at 164,000 miles so I ordered a set of 8 coils from Summit Racing and replaced the 5 coils that hadn't been replaced yet. I had 3 spare coils. My car is now at 171,500 miles and I've had 3 of those 5 coils go bad, all seemingly at inconvenient times, but that's beside the point. I talked to a few mechanic friends of mine and they said that some Ford computers are very particular about the ignition system, and most aftermarket coils are not exactly the same as OEM parts. I'm willing to bet the Summit Racing coils are a little bit different from Motorcraft coils.
Summit Racing wasn't willing to work with me at all on their failed parts. They have a 90 day warranty from date of purchase. The only thing they said they would do is give me a discount on 3 new coils, which I turned down. They couldn't refund me. I couldn't return the working ones for even a small refund.
Looks like my tax refund is going towards 5 Motorcraft coils.
