With 55 extra horse power, could my LS easly run 6 sec 0 - 60 times?

I want to add:

item/extra hp/cost

magna flow exhaust + install / 22 / $650

xcal2 tuner / 18 / $480

cone filter / 12 / $90

52 extra horses for $1220? Can I get the 0 - 60 time that I want with only $1220?

If you don't already have 3.55's, get them. Also...you can't just add up all the claimed hp gains from adding those items and necessarily get the total. Doesn't always work out that way...actually seldom does. However, your tuner should be able to maximize your tune for your mods and that can help a BUNCH!

12 HP from a cone filter?

Is that info from the manufacturer or actual HP that people are getting with a dreop in? I haven't looked into filters for the LS yet but I know with other cars/trucks you won't get anything like that. I did a CAI on my last vehicle and couldn't have gotten more than about 3-4, let alone just the filter.

The site site that sells the cone filter reports 10 - 15 hp improvments

Never trust what the company says.

Do you know what buyers are reporting? Seen any actual Dyno sheets? Just a little curious myself.

start with the SCT XCal, find a tuner that is will to work with you.....

that way every time you add something else - you'll get a new toune to maximize it....

yes i agree start with the sct flasher and go from there man

I haven't seen any dyno sheets.

On my 02, the exhaust must give me at least give me 15 more horses. I understand that the 03+ already have free flowing exhausts.

The xcal2 site reports 16 rwhp for the LS

The cone filter should also give a littile more.

These 3 additions and some 3.55 gears might be what I need.

I would like to get some extra power to beat my friends full size truck off the line. He has like an 04 silverado with the biggest engine option. Think the engine is a chevy 400? with 350-400 horse power stock?

My buddy is always telling me how fast his truck is, and how he beats lexus, cammaros from stop lights, and how his truck would whoop my lincolns *ss.
So I am hoping that these additions will help my LS kill his truck off the line.

At least I get more than double his mpg. He averages 9 mpg!

As a former 1/4 miler running 13.8's in a Taurus V8SHO your best best is...DROP WEIGHT....good launch.

Keep as little gas in your car as you can if you're racing. Quik LS with say the same with his AutoX.

Drop your spare tire, floor mats, drain or run out any fluids you can. Ive even see a guy run out all his washer fluid AND remove his wipers! After stripping all the "crap" that we tend to keep in the car. People didn't laugh because he had the fastest times.

A gallon of fluid (gas, water) weighs about 7 pounds.

Cheap HP can easily come in the form of NOT what you add....but what you subtract.

The silverado's came with a 5.3L 295 HP 330 Torque. Unless he has an SS (came with 20's and some body moldings) then that would have 6.0L 345 HP 380 Torque.

Trucks are usually pretty quick off the line because of the high amounts of torque and the fact that a lot have 3.73 or 4.10's stock.

I'm assuming he doesn't have a diesel (which would be much quicker) because you said he was getting 9mpg. Diesels are pretty fuel efficient, should be getting around 17.

by the way - 50hp will not drop a second of your time.

The LS also uses an 'open diff' which is not the best for a launch.

and remember - practice - most of your wins are against a weak driver - not a car....

Where can I get a xcal2 tune in Northern California (bay area)?

Remember, when you add performance parts, the HP figures, while exagerated, also do not add up linearly. Your list of mods and assessed HP value probably carry a real world value of 25 HP to the rear wheels. Best way to tune a car is to make one modification and dyno the car between mods so you can better gauge their effect on the car's performance. Remember, this car weighs nearly 4000 pounds... it's by no means a drag racer.
