ok well recently i've been hearing my brakes make some weird noises but finally they are going. my rear right rotor is being eaten away. i don't know if my brake pad is done or something is wrong will my caliper. i've never have had any brake problems before so i am not sure what the issue is.

not only when i brake do i hear grinding of my rear right rotor but when i don't break i still hear it being hit by something, the grinding continues but isn't as loud. i'm thinking possibly the caliper has locked up or something like that.

i called my warranty company and they said they only cover the calipers and not the rotors/brakes. i asked if the caliper is broken and somehow damages the rotor is that covered and they said no.....

well heres a pic of the damages.

Have you had the rear pads off to see whats going on? could be worn out or some grit embedded in the pad material. Rotors are an expendable item, just like your tires or pads so warranties dont cover such things. Also, make sure the caliper itself isnt loose.

well i started to notice a squeaking of my brakes for a couple weeks then i started to see some damage and could hear it. i am thinking of redoing my whole break setup, rotors and pads.

using Power Stop Extreme Street Brake Pads [blend of carbon and steel] for the back

Power Stop Z16 Evolution Ceramic Brake Pads for the front

Power Stop Drilled Brake Rotors

in all it will cost me about $450 for the parts. i would install myself. RollinLS suggested for me to go with this setup. he has the same thing and he says it performs great and if a descent price for what you get. what do you guys think?

Really does sound like your pad is worn to the metal and has ruined what was a useable rotor. If you do upgrade to fancy brakes dont neglect them. Periodically check their condition. (fluids, rotors, pads and pipework)

well when i bought the car form the dealer 5k miules ago they said everytihng looked good and was in great condition. never looked at the brakes. was my fault =\

They might well have been ok 5k miles ago. At least u know now. Anyway, good luck with the upgrades! Im sure the new pads pads and rotors will improve the braking no end!

Always check your pads, both inner and outer for wear. I do it whenever I rotate tires, about every other oil change or sooner. Also take a look at the pads and rotors thru the spokes of the wheels whenever you get a chance.

Once you get metal wear like your pics show, the rotors are probably toast or need a resurfacing at least.

One other thing almost all of us forget to do is to periodically clean and lubricate the metal to metal sliding surfaces of the caliper systems. I have done my own brakes for over 30 years and only lubed the sliders etc when I changed brakes. It wasn't until a year or two back that I found out we must also lubricate the brake components periodically. Use brake caliper grease.

Good Luck,

Jim Henderson
