Well at 54,000 it is now my turn to do the coil/V/C seal chore. I have two Fords w/ 5.4's so I know the basics and the tech forum here is awesome, Thanks. My question is where is Cyl # 1. I cannot find a repair manual anywhere and the code of P 0301 Cyl. # 1 seams simple enough having done it on the others, just do not know where # 1 is. Please help.

its on the passanger side the closest one to you if your standing at the front of the car.

good luck, i got that code last week and changed the plugs, coil, vcg, and its still throwing a CEL.

should be the front driver side - but just look at the engine from the side. The spark plug that is 1st from the front of the engine is #1 :D

After the work you did the symtoms go away. My 01 LS developed a miss today. It is more spectacular under load, just as it was on my 5.4 Navigator. On that vehicle it was the plug boots, not actual coils. Either way you did not mention any symptoms other than the code. Do you have any performance issues now?

You're right - I forgot ford don't do the side to side stuff (even on the passenger, odd on the driver)

Sorry for the confusion! :p
