Now that I have your attention. My last thread seemed to go nowhere. If you had six grand to put into your motor and it had one hundred fifty thousand miles on it, what would you do? An answer would be most welcome. :D

Doc, that wasn't fair :D . I would replace the motor with a better one maybe a cobra motor

Sorry to do that but I am desperate. My MKIII is a 93; would either the lightning or the cobra be an easy swap?

94m5 is in the process or thinking about doing a cobra motor swap, he could answer your questions better than i could. As for the lightning motor Geno might be able to answer that one send him a PM and ask him.

actually i just priced out a new 01 cobra motor tonight...$4045 from pepboys.

Thanks for the help! By the way Doc is short for Doctor. Which is what I am. I also run a little dude ranch in Wyoming.www.rangercreekranch.net.

Nice ranch. When I get some cash I might come out. I've always loved the West (I used to live in Albuquerque), and Wyoming sounds like a dream.

All LVC members get a discount at the ranch. And it's a great place to wake up every morning. Thanks for all the feedback.

I'll tell you what to do ,save a little more than go to sean hylands website, google it to find it just put 4.6 dohc, it should be 1 of the first links he is the modular f*cking master, than you will own the streets!!!!!:dancefool

Hyland is over rated.

www.vtengines.com is a good company as I have NEVER heard anything bad about them. I am not the one putting a cobra engine in my car. Phreakness is tho. I am working on a TT setup for my 95', but it's a LONG ways off.

As far as potential options.... you could have your engine rebuilt, buy a core, and have that redone, or just buy a crate engine from somewhere. The problem with modular engines is....they are EXPENSIVE! Your looking at 35-4000, for a good "stock" rebuild. Plus more if you want to hop them up.

You have a teksid block, good breathing heads, a good maf, good injectors, return style fuel system, cast crank good for 500 ponies, a buildable tranny. I would have the motor rebuilt. The block is an excellent place to start. Have the heads flowed to pick up some hp. Headers and exhaust. make sure to replace the crap pistons and rods and then you can add a decent power adder some day. Get a chip. Rebuild the tranny to Jerry specs and toss on nitrous for those moments when you can't help yourself.

Our engine blocks alone will become collectors items soon. And you can't beat a return style fuel system.
