whats going on guys? I just put in a system in my MarkVIII... i need a really good heavy duty alternator. the one i have does not hold the charge, lights are dimming, and the capasitor that was also installed with the system is reading 12.3. Is there place that sells like a 200 amp alternator for our cars? It could be a performance alternator, that would be good too. i just dont want to fry the damn thing, i appreicate it. thanks.

Lots of choices. My choice...

All I know is my rebuilt unit was only putting out 20A at idle and I can't even max this new alternator out... with everything on(w/ stock sound system), it loads up 50 plus amps AT IDLE.

Well first what amps are you running how much power (RMS not that "rated" $hit). the stock system in these cars can take alot (1300 watts and no blink, no dim and no cap in my car). But the GROUNDS SUCK IN THESE CARS. also have you checked your battery how old is it? Do you have the proper gauge of wire through the car. do you usually pound sitting still or while driving?

i have a optima red cap battery 980 CC... its never going to die...lol. i have 2 voodoo amps one 2 channel, and the other a 4 channel both are 900 watts, 2 12" diamond subs in the rear. im telling you this guys does not BS me when he says i need a heavy duty alternator, my battery is actually charging the alternator.

first you need to upgrade the ground on your car. make tap from the neg battery term and connect it to the body of the car kinda like this . the ground is not that great on these cars. I ran 1/0 gauge power wire from the battery to the trunk because the drop was to muchas shown here and here . anything less with that much wattage is asking for trouble. Have your altenator AND regulator checked out , depending on the amount of miles (100k+) may be worn out. As for the red tops / yellow tops I've never been a big fan. they've been more sales hype than any good experience with me. now I'm not a ground pounder and whenever I've got the music up i'm usually driving. I do very little parking lot pounding. if you sit and pound then you should look at a dual battery isolator and beefy altenator setup. but you may just need a rebuild.

Odyssey PC1200LMJT dry cell battery is a good alternative. :Beer

When I first got my system, I had that problem so bad that my car sometimes wouldn't start, and the "Check charging system" message came up. So I ordered the 130A(?) Cobra Alternator from Max at 5star... have not had the slightest problem since... no light dimming or anything.

Nice pics man, but I need a zoom out description.lol Where did you put the ground at, and is the wire a 4 or 1/0? And where is the second picture when the power is running through a hole? 1/0 gauge must have been a bear to get through the car...

well its been lil more than a month now, and my alternator is slowly going. i noticed my volts is dropping rapidly when i noticed one of my bass amp shut down. took it to a sound shop over here, they ran the meter to my battery as i have my system full blast and reving the engine with A/C also full blast, voltage dropped from 13.9 to 11.2. i ordered a 160 amp alternator, i really really wanted the 200 amp, but money is tight right now. i hate to be the one to say it guys, but i told ya so! ground is fine, its the alternator... i cant even enjoy my system right now, im playing the safe side, until i get the part... aaaahhhhhh.

Whats going to be even better is when you put on that huge alt and it still acts the same way beacuse you didn't upgrade your grounds. Look, upgrading grounds is EASY. you buy some 0/1 or 4 awg wire, put your choice of ring terminals on it, then prep the surface by removing all paint, primer, dust and grime. I usualy use a wire brush and sand paper. Then protect the surface with di-electric grease. You can get a small can of it from parts stores for about 5 bux, and you can use it almost anywhere there's a connection in your car. Trust me, I've been a DIY car audio person for a long time, and now i'm in retail car audio. Upgrading your grounds will give you the biggest improvment per dollar you will find in car audio. :soapbox:
