Need driveshaft!!!!

I was able to get one from a bone yard in a day. $80. I used the scrap yard one to mod for my 8.8 swap, kept my original untouched.

Curious on your design and vibration. The scrap yard one I got has a locking nut in the middle, locking movement at the middle yoke, not sure the year. My 02 stocker has no lock nut and is allowed to slide free in the middle at the yoke by the center bearing.

The driveshaft shop put a big heavy slide yoke on my shaft for the 8.8 swap. Also its almost all the way extended....not sure what they were thinking, I gave good measurements. The slide is good as it is locked at the center, but never really liked how it turned out. But I'm thinking of having my 02 shaft done up without the massive slider since it can move in the middle.

Anyways I'm just trying to figure out what years had the locked set-up.

I have a rumbling/vibration when I hit 40 mph, stays till 60 mph then is gone at speeds higher than 60. I had one of the techs at my job (Ford/Mercury/Lincoln dealer) feel it on the lift while the wheels were off the car so that ruled out wheels/tires and he said it is in the center driveshaft. When I had our parts dept look up 2002 driveshaft the illustration showed a center nut, now not sure how accurate those illustrations are sometimes.

Question since you have had the driveshaft out, can the center bearing be replaced on the shaft??? I would think so, because it is listed as a seperate part. I might just try to change that and the rubbers and try from there???

I read somewhere, can't remember where that the driveshaft was considered a non serviveable assembly. That doesn't always mean that, just means they sell it whole usually.

Anyhow I remember someone on here having a problem and getting just the center bearing done.

To me it looked like it could be replaced and if you can buy it...that is a good sign.

I have picks of the driveshaft in some old posts of mine. I believe in my 4.10 swap thread.

I will have an extra drive shaft once I put the new engine in my LS. PM me with what you think. It will be from an '01 V8.
