I own a clean 1983 lincoln 4 dr mark vi signature series; 5.0, 2bbl, duel exhaust. I blew a head gasket and the car has been sitting for a year. I've decided that I am going do the work myself. Its been since high school since I've done any kind of that work (over 25 yrs). Bought the Fel-Pro engine gasket and seals kit. One of my buddies suggested that I get some machine work done on the heads and intake to get more power, performance and better gas mileage. with the 135 hp motor its very hard to get tickets.

I would want to keep the cost low (basically the most bang for the buck, yea right) and keep it stock as possible. Also, if its worth it, maybe considering buying heads or other parts or other recommend work that should be done. I just don't know and its been a while. Engine is all original and very clean with about 95k miles. Can anyone suggest or recommend and direct me to information and books to read. Thank you.

Why not buy a used 225 hp E7TE based 5.0 engine? You could pick up one for less than $200, slap on a 4brrl carb and intake and have a much more peppy car in the end for not much more money, if more money at all.
