need help, dash has gone insain

OK, so it's like this. I'm a bit of a lincoln nut case, this is the third I've owned. And every one becomes a desaster that costs me more than the car is worth. I just bought a 89 mark VII. One oe those grey platnum 5L. And for about a day it was awsume. Then, the air bag system took a nose dive...literaly. The drivers side air bag has a hole in it and my compreser passes air they the "manual" tire air filler on it.But thats not the part that drives me wield. The dash tach and gas go crazy when ever you turn on the head lights. If the dimmer is off, their fine but if you turn the dimmer up they shut off. KNOw with being an ex car audio installer I know theres a short somewhere resulting in a "ground" becoming a power and dropping out the tack. But I can find the short. Has anyone els seen this. If so let me know so I can figure out how to fix it.

Fix the orange ground wire in the dash.

Also, if you have air suspension issues the last thing you should be doing is lowering it.

Thanks man, I added a ground "piggypack" on the orange wire and all is well. Well that is untill I noticed my battery was dead from haveing the door open all day. I replaced the air bags and the valve on the compressor and the front sitts fine. Now I just need to fix the passanger door lock and I'm going to take her for a cruse...That is after I give the battery a jump!

What you've done is actually considered a major repair by most owners. Opening the dash and grounding a wire and replacing one or two air springs is daunting to most.

Your all day job may have just added another decade or two to the life of your car. Thanks for taking Josh's advice and for helping to save yet another Mark VII.
