Hello,

I am new to this board, I was wondering if someone can help me. I purchased a HID conversion kit from "vision bulbs." They have install instructions on their website, but they are not for a LS.

What power source do you use for the kit, since the battery is in the truck? Also, where does the kit connect to the stock wiring?

Here is a link to the install instructions......http://www.visionbulbs.com/vb_installg.php?id=8&dmv=6924511689#

Thanks for any help, it is greatly appreciated.

According to the website, the kit plugs into your old headlight connectors. You could probably run the power source off the back of the alternator and then ground the relay to the fenderwell or something else metal.

Its simple. Pretty straight forward.

You get a wiring harness that plugs right into your stock headlight harness.

Re

Thanks for the replies guys.

Will it be enough required power from the back of the alternator? How do I connect it?

Also, this might sound like a stupid question, but does it effect the computer at all if you disconnect the battery? Can I do the install without disconnecting the battery?

Thanks for anyhelp

I wouldn't attempt it without disconnecting the battery. Disconnecting shouldn't hurt anything. Read your owners manual. It has some steps you can go through when reconnecting your battery that will help the car "relearn" it's proper settings. Also I am not sure if you can connect to the back of the alternator because I haven't had mine off, but I would guess that the positive wire running to it has an eye connector on it that fits over a stud and then a nut secures it to the alternator. If so then just get some kind of end on the end of the wire needed that you can put on the stud and bolt down. Hopefully someone here will post if that is correct. Also you could try and find where the postive battery cable runs under the hood to the alternator and see if there is some kind of juction box that has something you could mount/bolt your light's power cable too. Yes it should be enough power because that is pretty much the entire power source for the whole car when it is running.

You dont need to touch your alternator.

If you bought the kit you linked to. It has and adaptor for you stock wiring harness. The kit should be "plug and play".

re

I have to plug in the power wire to some kind of power source. Where is this power source? The kit is designed to plug the power cable directly onto the battery terminal, but since the battery is in the truck........I don't know where to plug it in.

One suggestion, is the back of the alternator. Is there any other suggestions?

Thanks

Can anyone comment on hooking the power directly to the alternator? Is this the best place, have others with HID's used this spot?

Thanks

I dont understand how you have a 'power' wire. The power you need to turn on the lights should be coming from your stock wiring harness.

The link you provided shows everything i got with my HID kit, and i have nothing connected to my alternator or any 'power' wire.

same here, the stock low beam headlight connectors plugged directly into the ballast, than out of the ballast to the bulb. No power wire here for my HID's, mine were from "Pilot"

Looking at the link I provided......they hook a power wire directly to the battery terminals in step 6.

Can I skip this step then?

They might be selling a relay kit or something with it to make sure the headlights get "full voltage" Mine came with the relay harness, and in the instructions it said you have two options, hook them up to the stock pigtails and put a bigger fuse in the fuse box (which is dangerous) or use the provided relay harness to go straight to the battary and use the stock pigtails as a turnon. I Used the stock pigtails for power and all and didnt touch the fuses, still working wonderfully

Cool, thanks for the reply. I went out and hooked them up to the stock harness. Man was that easy.....15 mins. Should I leave them on for ten minutes to break them in? Or is this not required?
