Have been watching the forum for a week or so. Looking hard @ an 00 LS V8. Everybody says warranty is a must. Can you just walk into a dealership with your VIN and buy a warranty? Is there any way to get it if it has expired? Is there any way to see if it is still in effect? All replies appreciated. Thx.

Your financial institution will probably offer one to you. When I asked, most people told me not to waste my money on the warranty. Depends on how much work you do yourself and what the deductable is on the warranty. I have done repairs that would have cost me several hundred dollars that ended up being pretty cheap as I did it myself, and cheaper than a lot of deductables.

Plus you know how well the job was done. We tend to take better care of the car if we are the care giver and not the dealer. There are some things though, such a tranny, that I would not touch with a 10ft pole and i have been through 3 times on that one system alone.
