So, this is going to come as a shock to some, but I've never had a home computer. Only use the computer at work, or my smartphone. On another forum i'm active on, a guy is selling a Dell mini 9 netbook, for $250 shipped. I noly use computers for internet/email. Don't need anything for gaming or that stuff. Wondering if this could be a decent cheap option for me. No room for a desktop at home, so need something portable. Here's his post:

"I am selling to finance a Nook Color so if someone wanted to trade that would be aces.

It came with Ubuntu installed but I have it running Mac OS 10.5.8 (fresh install). It runs GREAT! Everything works - Webcam, bluetooth, wifi, speakers/headphones, SD card reader...you name it. I haven't bothered going up to 10.6 since everything works so well on this OS. There are three USB ports, a 10/100 Ethernet port, an SD Card slot and a VGA port (I have driven a 19" monitor with this, no problem at all).

With a smart phone, macbook, ipod touch and Windows 7 netbook this just doesn't get used so it's time to pass it a long to someone who can use it. Great for traveling, coffee shops, planes, Skype chat...it's a great portable computer.

This came with an 8gb SSD and 256mb of RAM - I have upgraded it to a large 32gb SuperTalent SSD and 2gb of high quality Kingston RAM (over $120 in upgrades). The original components are included as well as a USB enclosure case for the original SSD which basically turns it into an 8gb hard external hard drive. I am also including a black, neoprene sleeve/case.

The original shipping box, paperwork, manual and Ubuntu restore disc are all included. It would be possible to put Ubuntu back on here or Windows if you wanted.

The cosmetic condition is very good, with some minor scratches. The screen is in excellent condition. I have added a cool silver Apple sticker on the top lid as well as reversed the "windows" and "alt" keys so the "windows" key will function as the "apple" key.

$250 and we split lower 48 USPS Priority."

You will probably want something a little "more" than the Mini 9. You can get a Mini 10v for that price or less from Dell if you keep an eye out for it. Unless you are really wanting a bare-minimum laptop, the Mini 9 is not what you want. The SSD, smaller screen, slow processor and minimum ram are all great for power consumption but horrible on performance. The first time you try to watch a YouTube clip on it you would probably toss it in the trash.

I am typing this now on a Mini 10v. It works well as a very portable laptop, with just barely enough power to do video. I dropped bluetooth and 2GB of ram into it, and probably have ~$250 total into it about a year ago. If you wanted to run Apple OSX on it, it is easy to do just like the Mini 9. I can help you get one setup either way if you are sure this is the direction you want to head, just shoot me a PM.
