Been there, done that and got the T-shirt. Our dog did this ONCE and I was furious. After that we started putting him in the kitchen with baby gates at the openings. He had limited access to items that could be torn up. We just gave him chew toys and bones and he has never done that again.

We use to keep our Collie in the kitchen with baby gate and she'd find something to make a mess with.
Then we started leaving her out with the free roam of the house. Nothing no problems. I think she likes the freedom and gets less stressed having the extra space.

Our Wheaten did that when he was younger, I know how it is. We stopped giving him dog treats for awhile. All we gave him was his dog food, (no table scraps either). He stopped making messes after that. Never uses the gate because he would always manage to knock it over or jump it.
