Well... I finally did it... Todoay I took my car into Firestone and had them convert my car to R134-A, and replace all worn components...
I had them replace the A/C compressor, two hoses, Acuumulator/Drier, Orifice Tube, and convert the system from R-12 ro R134-A.
It's going to be a cool summer here in Arizona... Why did I convert? the amount of access we have to R134-A is the main reason... Now whenever there is a problem I can just head to Wal-Mart and buy what I need to fix my car... Although R-12 is cooler, I will take a little bit warmer air for the access I now have to the freon...
Here is a break down:
Parts: A/C compressor, Accum./Drier, etc..
841.42
Flush: Cleans condensor and such
84.00
Total: $1089.95 This price includes labor/shop fees and taxes...
As an added bonus I asked VERY nicely for them to waive the freon and re-charge fee!
R134-A per lbs. = $30.00 x 2 = $60.00
R134-A per oz. = 2.00 X 2 = $4.00
Total: $64.00 for freon + A/C dye($9.99) and the recharge fee of $79.00 for a grand total of $178.99.
